Selection is based upon scholarly and professional quality, the project's contribution to a better understanding of Japanese culture, arts, language, and society, and to the promotion of cultural relations between Japan and the world. Applicant must also have the cooperation of an affiliated institution, associate, or research associate. Three letters of reference required. Applicant should contact the Japan Foundation New York office in September.
Recipients receive stipends of 370,000 yen to 430,000 yen per month, plus additional allowances for accompanying dependents, health insurance, and academic fees totaling 140,000 yen per month. Round-trip airfare as well as one-time allowances are provided for settling in/departure costs and research expenses.
