Applicant must be a high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student who is a current employee, owner or dependent of a retail bookstore in the U.S. OR a former Borders Group employee or dependent. Transcript and IRS 1040 Form required.

Applicant must be a high school, college, or graduate student who applies to as many scholarships as possible and as part of the application process, sends confirmation e-mails from the scholarships applied to back to the sponsor. Short letter about yourself is also required to be submitted.

 

Significant Challenge College Scholarship

Applicant must be a legal U.S. citizen who is currently enrolled in an accredited high school and planning to attend a vocational school, community college, or four-year college full-time. Minimum 3.4 GPA and essay required. Leadership skills must be demonstrated.

 

CustomerBlooms Scholarship Contest

Applicant must be a high school, college, university, or trade school student. Required to create a video under five minutes on the topic: "How ideas help shape the world around us, why education is a critical element to future success, and why you strive for greatness" and upload video to YouTube.

 

#CulinaryVoice Scholarship Challenge

Applicant must be a high school, college, masters, or doctoral student. Applicant must upload a one-minute video demonstrating their creativity, passion for food, service, or entrepreneurial flair. In the video, contestants should explain who they are, what they hope to achieve in the culinary or hospitality industries, and why they deserve the scholarship and chance to study at the Institute of Culinary Education. Finalists will be determined by public vote; for every vote the Institute will make a donation to No Kid Hungry to help end childhood hunger in America. One full scholarship and one partial scholarship will be awarded for each of the Institute's four career training programs: culinary arts, pastry/baking arts, culinary management, and hospitality management.

 

Autism Scholarship

Applicant must be a United States or Canadian resident between the ages of 16 and 30 who has been diagnosed with autism. A 600 to 850 word article providing the applicant's "story" is required. This can be why you deserve to win, how this can affect your life, anything, but it should be inspirational and ideally grab peoples' attention.

Youth Essay Competition on the Principles of Religious Freedom, Tolerance, and Love for all Humanity

Award: $1,000, Deadline: October 30

Applicant must be between the ages of 12 to 21. Essay under 1500 words required on the following topic: How can the major religions of the world come to abide in their various concepts of universal love, and practice love for all humanity rather than merely for those who adhere to a particular set of beliefs?

 

Shear Comfort Engineering and Automotive Technology Scholarship

Award: $1,500, Deadline: October 15; April 15

Applicant must be a student enrolled in an engineering program related to the development of vehicles and automotive technology. Essay required on the following topic: In your opinion, what will be the largest technological development in the automotive industry within the next 5-10 years and how do you plan to be a part of it?

Applicant must submit a 1,500- to 2,500 word essay describing concerns of today's immigrant. Questions to consider: Are you an immigrant, too? Were your parents or grandparents immigrants? Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship

Applicant must be a U.S. resident 13 years of age or older. A short 250-word or less essay on the following topic required: Imagine that your high school/college has been overrun with Zombies. Your math professor, the cafeteria ladies and even your best friend have all joined the walking dead. Use your brain to flesh out a plan to avoid the Zombies, including where you would hide and the top five things you would bring with you to stay alive.

 

USA University Student Scholarship

Applicant must be planning to attend a university in the United States. Three short essays required.

 

Education Matters Scholarship

Applicant must be a high school or college student who is a legal resident of the United States. A short written response of 250 words or less that answers the following question is required: What would you say to someone who thinks education doesn't matter, or that college is a waste of time and money?

 

Auto-Pets Out-Of-The-Box-Thinking Scholarship

Applicant must be a current high school, undergraduate, or graduate student in the United States. An essay, pitch, or summary about a pet innovation idea and how it was conceptualized, is required.

 

Project Paradigm

Applicant must be 18 years of age or younger. Students will need to submit a description of 140 characters or less of their idea to reduce waste in their homes, schools, community or around the world.
