Scholarships in Writing And Poetics

Hiro Yamagata Scholarship

Award: $5,300, Deadline: April 1

Applicant must be in the graduate MFA Writing and Poetics program. Selection is based on a demonstration of creative and academic excellence as assessed in their admissions application. Brief statement describing interest in and familiarity with writers from diverse ethnic backgrounds is required.

 

Jack Kerouac Scholarship

Award: $6,200, Deadline: April 15

Applicant must be a graduate student in the writing and poetics prose or translation program.

 

Ted Berrigan Scholarship

Award: $6,200, Deadline: April 1

Applicant must be a graduate student in the MFA Writing and Poetics poetry or translation program.

 

Harry and Arlene Bohr Scholarship Fund

Award: $50,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be a resident of Blackford County planning to pursue post secondary education in composition, creative writing, english, journalism, or other writing-related fields.

 

The Nicholas A. Virgilio Memorial Haiku Competition

Award: $50, Deadline: March 25

Applicant must be a junior high or high school student. Unpublished, original haiku is required. May submit up to three haiku per student.

 

Creative Writing Award

Award: $3,500, Deadline: n/a

Applicant must submit one of the following choices: Five poems, two short stories, a chapter from a novel, two personal essays, and/or three examples of literary journalism. Must apply by November 15 and indicate interest in award.
