New York Women in Communications Foundation Scholarship

Award: $10,000, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must be a student from New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania majoring or (for high school seniors) declaring a major in a communications-related field with a minimum GPA of 3.2. Selection is based upon academic excellence and need and involvement in the field of communications.

 

New York Women in Communications Foundation Scholarships

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student who intends to pursue or further a career in communications.

 

Dunbar Scholarship

Award: $44,000, Deadline: January 15

Nomination required. Applicants nominated for award rank at or near the top of their class, pursue the most rigorous course load available, and demonstrate sustained and outstanding leadership ability. Common Application, application, interview, and campus visit prior to January 15 are required. Faculty committee will select finalists.

 

George E. Mylonas Scholarship

Applicant must be an entering freshman student who plans to pursue an undergraduate major in Arabic; art history and archaeology; Chinese; classics/ancient studies; comparative arts; comparative literature; dance; drama; English; film and media studies; French; German; modern Hebrew; history; interdisciplinary project in the humanities; literature and history; Italian; Japanese; Jewish, Islamic, and Near Eastern studies; music; philosophy; religious studies; Russian studies; or Spanish.

 

Ruffin Scholarship

Applicant must be an incoming freshman student with a minimum combined SAT Reasoning score of 1200 (minimum composite ACT score of 27) who is majoring in english, foreign language, history, linguistics, or writing.

 

Catharine Gould Chism Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must be an incoming freshman who has demonstrated leadership abilities and has the intent to major in the arts or humanities.

 

Florence McLaughlin Scholarship

Applicant must rank in the top half of class and have a minimum combined SAT score of 1050.

 

Division of Humanities Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or better and be in the upper half of their graduating class. Applicant must provide 5-10 pages of poetry or prose.

 

Gilbert Neiman Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: March 1

Freshman applicant must submit a creative writing or critical essay and letter of recommendation from a senior English teacher. Three awards are made each year, one each to a freshman, sophomore, and junior.

 

Patricia Collins Amaral Memorial Fund

Award: $600, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a senior who has a minimum 3.0 GPA and who has demonstrated the finest qualities of leadership through participation in campus organizations and has rendered service of significant benefit to the campus community.

 

Dr. Wallace L. Anderson Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a junior student in the humanities and creative arts who has an excellent academic record and who has shown evidence of artistic or literary ability or has demonstrated leadership in the academic major.

 

Alumni Association Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must demonstrate community leadership and have met the award criteria established by the Alumni Association's Scholarship Committee. Applicant must have completed 12 credits last semester and 24 credits at Bridgewater State College as of December 31. Applicants who have transferred from Massachusetts Community Colleges, Dean College, or Quincy College are eligible to apply.

 

Shirley Sandrock Barnhardt and Robert A. Barnhardt Scholarship

Award: $1,500, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be in the top fifth of their secondary school class, have a minimum combined SAT Reasoning score of 1200, and demonstrate leadership potential and participation in scholastic and community organizations.

 

Dr. Margaretta Bone Elementary Education Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: May 1

Selection is based upon academic ability, leadership, and service involvement.

 

James York Glimm Scholarship in English

Award: $350, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must demonstrate potential for developing as a writer and student of literature and must be in the top two-fifths of class.

 

English/Belltower Fellowship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must have a minimum 3.3 GPA and a minimum combined SAT score of 1530 with a minimum critical reading score of 550 (composite ACT score of 23). Selection is based upon essay submission, interview with Department Chair, and letter of recommendation from a high school English teacher.

 

English Scholarship

Selection is based upon an examination of various aspects of high school English.

 

Dr. Susan Sutton Smith Scholarship

Applicant must be majoring in English. Selection is based upon academic achievement and financial aid. FAFSA is required.

 

Fr. Edward J. O'Heron Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: February

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, submit an essay, and demonstrate caring, community service, history of helping others, and intellectual promise as an English teacher or writer.

 

Marion C. Thompson Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must demonstrate academic success and financial need.
