National High School Poetry Contest

Award: $2,500, Deadline: March 31; June 30; September 30; October 31

Applicant must be a high school student. Poem of 20 lines or less is required to be submitted.

 

Student Journalist Impact Award

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a high school student whose teacher/adviser is a JEA member at the time their writing sample was published, broadcast, or created.

 

ExploraVision Science Competition

Award: $10,000, Deadline: January 29

Applicant must be part of a team of two, three, or four other people who select a technology (or an aspect of a technology) that is present in and relevant to their lives. Through research of current information, they must then create an in-depth report that discusses what that technology could be like 20 years from now. Applicant must be a United States or Canadian citizen or legal resident, living within the United States, U.S. Territories or Canada and enrolled full-time in a public or private high school.

 

International Young Eco-Hero Awards

Award: $500, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must have begun a self-initiated project concerning environmental health, advocacy, research, or protection of the natural world.

Award: $500, Deadline: May 15

Applicant must be a high school or undergraduate student who is enrolled at an accredited college or university in the United States with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Although it is NOT a requirement, preference will be given to students with mobility disabilities. Please submit a 'visual poem', in a style of your choosing, on the theme of overcoming a personal challenge.

 

Holocaust Remembrance Project Essay Contest

Award: $10,000, Deadline: April 30

Applicant must be a high school student in the United States or Mexico who is 19 years of age or younger. Selection is based upon completion of essay regarding the topic of the Holocaust.

 

Create-A-Greeting-Card Scholarship Contest

Award: $10,000, Deadline: March 2

Applicant must be a high school or college/university student who is a legal resident of the United States or Canada and is enrolled during the latter half of the academic year. Greeting card design is required to be submitted. Judging criteria will be used to determine the recipient: overall aesthetic appeal; quality of execution; creativity and originality; successful incorporation of design elements; appropriateness for use as a greeting card; attractiveness to The Gallery Collection's corporate and consumer customers; suitability as a design in Prudent's Gallery Collection greeting card line.

 

A Voice for Animals Essay Contest

Award: $750, Deadline: May 25

Applicant must be a high school student who is involved in a project which addresses one of the following anywhere in the world: the mistreatment of one animal species; one cause of animal suffering; or the preservation of one species threatened with extinction.

 

Youth Free Expression Project Film Contest

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 15

Applicant be a United States citizen who is 19 years of age or younger. A filmed message sharing why video games are important to you is required.

 

College Toolkit Scholarship for High School Students

Award: $1,000, Deadline: September 30

Applicant must be a high school student and pick at least three colleges they are considering, and rank them in order of preference.

 

Common Knowledge Scholarships

Award: $2,500, Deadline: Monthly

Foundation offers award scholarships through the use of Internet-based quiz competitions with topics that range from common knowledge to specific academic subjects.

 

CollegeTreasure.com Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: August 15

Applicant must be a high school student who is planning to attend college.

 

Live Life Smart Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 31

Applicant must be a legal resident of the United States and at least 13 years of age. Entrant must be a current high school student and an authorized as a user of StudentEdge. When you register for or log in to a StudentEdge account, you will receive one entry into the contest. Only the first time entry in a 24-hour period will count as a valid entry. At the end of each month during the promotion period, there will be a random drawing from all the entries received that month to determine the winner of the $1,000 prize.

 

The James Alan Cox Scholarship for Student Photojournalists

Award: $2,500, Deadline: November 15

Applicant must be a high school (sophomore or older with one semester remaining), college, or graduate school student. High school applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of one photography or related art class; college students must be enrolled in photography or journalism; graduate students must be enrolled in a journalism/photojournalism class. Photo or video that 'tells a story' must be submitted.

 

Diverse Minds Youth Writing Challenge

Award: $5,000, Deadline: March 11 (Southern New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland); March 18 (Washington, D.C. metro area); March 25 (New York)

Applicant must be a high school student currently enrolled in grades 9 through 12 in one of the following areas: Washington, DC; Delaware/Delmarva Peninsula and southern New Jersey; New York City; or Maryland area (each city/ region is a separate contest with students competing only against others in their local community). Applicant must write and illustrate a children's book that discusses the topics of tolerance and diversity.

 

Coastwise Prize for Investing Excellence

Award: $2,500, Deadline: January 13

Applicant must be a sophomore, junior, or senior student at La Jolla High School, La Jolla Country Day, The Bishop's School, or The Preuss School. Essay required. Award looks to promote and inspire financial education among students to help them become more competent, aware, and wise when managing personal finances. Award amounts vary by class level. Recipients will be invited to attend the Annual Financial Horizons Conference at UC San Diego.

 

WyzAnt Scholarship

Award: $10,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be a student who is planning to be enrolled in a four-year college between August 2016 and November 2018. A 300-word essay is required. Award minimum granted to third place recipient; award average granted to second place recipient; award maximum granted to first place recipient. Finalists will be determined by popular vote.

 

$1,000 Moolahspot Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: August 31

Applicant must be at least 16 years of age and be planning on or be currently attending college or graduate school. Applications must be completed in English. Selection is based upon a short essay.

 

$1,000 College JumpStart Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: October 17

Applicants must be 10th, 11th or 12th grade high school, college or adult students. Applicants may study any major and attend any college in the U.S. Applicants must be legal residents of the U.S. and complete the online application form including the required personal statement. The award may be used for tuition, room and board, books or any related educational expense. Applicant must be committed to using education to better their life and that of their family and/or community.

 

$1,500 Scholarship Detective Launch Scholarship

Award: $1,500, Deadline: May 31

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Selection based upon personal statement. Second award selection based on a random drawing of all eligible applicants.

 

Eastside & Northshore Kaua'i Scholarship Fund

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 19

Applicant must be a resident of one of the following east and northshore Kaua'i areas: Anahola, Kapa'a, Kilauea, Hanalei, Princeville, Kealia, or Wailua. Minimum 2.5 GPA required.

 

Elena Albano Maka'alohilohi Scholarship Fund

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 19

Applicant must be a resident of Maui county recovering from a mental health, behavioral or psychological disability. Preference given to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry and past recipients.

 

Ellen Hamada Fashion Design Scholarship (VocEd)

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 19

Applicant must be pursuing an A.S. or A.A.S. in fashion design within the University of Hawaii Community College system.

 

Esther Kanagawa Memorial Art Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 19

Applicant must be majoring in the fine arts (drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics or photography).

 

Hokuli`a Foundation Scholarship Fund

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 19

Applicant must be a resident of North of South Kona who plans to study in the fields of healthcare, education or social work. Preference given to applicants who demonstrate an emphasis in advancing Native Hawaiian culture.

 

National Aviation Explorer Scholarship

Award: $10,000, Deadline: March 31

Applicant must be registered and active in an aviation Explorer post. Three letters of recommendation and a 500-word educational plan are required. Application must be approved by applicant's local Learning for Life office for consideration. If under 18 years of age, parent or guardian approval is required; applicants over the age of 21 are not eligible.

 

Viral Video Scholarship Contest

Award: $2,000, Deadline: March 31

Applicant must create a public service announcement video on about the effects of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Contest is a community service project that helps educate the public on safe driving practices.

 

Bainbridge Civic Club Scholarship

Award: $1,200, Deadline: April 15

Applicant must be a resident of Bainbridge Township, but does not need to attend Kenston High School.

 

Fields of Learning Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 31

Applicant must be an Ohio high school student (not limited to football players, band members, cheerleaders, etc.). Essay describing personal learning experiences which involved high school football is required.

 

Stuck at Prom Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: June 13

Applicant must create and accessorize their prom outfit with duct tape. Membership of the Duck Tape Club is required to apply. Award amounts will be matched and also give to the recipient's school.
