Scholarships in Engineering

Mark P. Herschede Engineering Award

Award: $2,500, Deadline: May 15; varies

Applicant must be a full-time graduate student studying engineering with a minimum cumulative grade average equal to or above the All Men's Average at the college or university to which they are attending (minimum 3.0 GPA when AMA is not available). Membership with Sigma Chi is required.

 

Airgas-Jerry Baker Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be enrolled in a welding engineering program with a minimum 3.0 engineering GPA (2.8 GPA overall). Financial need and essay are required.

 

Jack R. Barckhoff Welding Management Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a college junior who is majoring in welding engineering at Ohio State University. Minimum 2.5 GPA and 300 to 500 word essay are required.

 

William Frank Minority Science Scholarship

Hypertherm International Hytech Leadership Scholarship

Applicant must have a minimum 2.8 GPA and plan to major in engineering management.

 

Dorothy Lemke Howarth Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, a woman, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicant must be in an ABET-accredited engineering program, engineering at SWE-approved institution, or computer science in a CSAB-accredited program or at an ABET-accredited or SWE-approved institution.

 

Willis H. Carrier Scholarship

Award: $10,000, Deadline: December 1

Applicant must be a full-time student enrolled in a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), or a substantially equivalent program outside the United States, leading to a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree. Selection is based upon financial need, faculty recommendations, leadership ability, and potential service to the HVAC and/or refrigeration profession.

 

ASHRAE Scholarship

Award: $3,000, Deadline: May 1

Selection is based upon financial need, minimum 3.0 college GPA, faculty recommendations, leadership ability, and potential service to the HVAC and/or refrigeration profession. Applicant must be enrolled full time in an ABET-accredited program.

 

Men's Auxiliary of the SWE (MASWE) Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must be a woman and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicant must demonstrate financial need and be in an ABET-accredited engineering program, engineering at SWE-approved institution, or computer science in a CSAB-accredited program or at an ABET-accredited or SWE-approved institution.

 

Ivy Parker Memorial Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must be a woman, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate financial need. Applicant must be in an ABET-accredited engineering program, engineering at SWE-approved institution, or computer science in a CSAB-accredited program or at an ABET-accredited or SWE-approved institution.

 

Olive Lynn Salembier Reentry Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: May 15

Applicant must be a woman who has been out of the engineering job market for a minimum of two years. Applicant must be in an ABET-accredited engineering program, engineering at SWE-approved colleges and universities, or computer science in a CSAB-accredited program or at an ABET-accredited or SWE-approved institution. Scholarship is to aid in obtaining the credentials necessary to re-enter the job market as an engineer.

 

Julia Kiene Fellowship in Electrical Energy

Award: $2,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be pursuing graduate work toward an advanced degree in the electrical industry. Selection is based upon academic aptitude, vocational promise, character, financial need, and willingness to continue a career in a field related to the utility industry and related fields.

 

Lillian Moeller Gilbreth Memorial Scholarship

Award: $6,000, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must be a woman with a minimum 3.0 GPA who demonstrates outstanding potential and achievement. Applicant must be in an ABET-accredited engineering program, engineering at SWE-approved institution, or computer science in a CSAB-accredited program or at an ABET-accredited or SWE-approved institution.

 

B. Charles Tiney Memorial ASCE Student Chapter/Club Scholarship

Award: $3,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be an ASCE National Student Member in good standing and demonstrate financial need. Selection is based upon appraisal of applicant's justification, educational plans, academic performance, potential for development, leadership, and financial need.

 

TRW Scholarship

Award: $2,125, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must be a woman and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicant must be in an ABET-accredited engineering program, engineering at SWE-approved institution, or computer science in a CSAB-accredited program or at an ABET-accredited or SWE-approved institution.

 

Foundation Scholarship Program

Award: $5,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be a Latino high school graduating senior, undergraduate, or graduate student who is pursuing a degree in engineering, math, or science

 

Chancellor's Scholarship

Award: $6,500, Deadline: March 15

Applicant must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, with a minimum 92 admission average including six OACs or equivalent, and must meet extracurricular or community excellence criteria. Award is in Canadian dollars.

 

AIAA Undergraduate Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: January 31

Applicant must have completed at least one academic quarter or semester of full-time college work with a college GPA of not less than the equivalent of a 3.3. Applicant must intend to enter into some field of science or engineering encompassed by the technical activities of AIAA. Selection will be based upon academic achievement, career, goals, recommendations, and extracurricular activities. Upon receipt of award, recipient must become an AIAA student member.

 

Kelso-Battle Scholarship

Applicant must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and a minimum composite ACT score of 26. Applicant must be in a Arts & Sciences, College of Business, or College of Technology program.

 

Sumitomo Machinery Corporation of America

Preference is given to applicant planning to major in engineering and international studies.

 

Alexander S. Langsdorf Fellowship

Randall K. Nutt Engineering Scholarship

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and minimum composite ACT score of 23. Primary consideration is given to graduates of Farragut High School, Hohenwald High School, or Ooltewah High School, with other Tennessee residents secondary. Priority is given to applicants with financial need, without other aid, and those interested in electrical or computer engineering.

Applicant must have demonstrated academic achievement and service to fellow man through participation in extracurricular activities, community projects or the Co-op program. Preference is given to applicants who are U.S. citizens, have a minimum 3.25 GPA, and demonstrate leadership and ambition to achieve a college education.

 

Minority Engineering Scholarship

Applicant must be an African-American student with a minimum 3.0 GPA, minimum composite ACT score of 23 (combined SAT I score of 940), and at least 3.5 units of mathematics. Selection is based upon merit.

Applicant must be an entering freshman who is a state finalist in the OSPE contest. Selection is based upon academics, leadership, character, and financial need. FAFSA (due by April 1) and Pell eligibility are required.
