Scholarships in Human Sciences

Herbert and Beatrice Riggs Scholarship

Award: $650, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must be an incoming freshman student who is a Georgia resident. Preference is given to students majoring in the human service field who have financial need.

 

Canadian Home Economics Association (CHEA) Fellowship

Award: $6,000, Deadline: November 1

Applicant must be a woman who is a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant and is attending a Canadian university. Applicant must be studying one or more aspects in the field of home economics at the masters or doctoral level.

 

Master's Fellowship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: April 1

Applicant must be a member of Kappa Omicron Nu. Proof of his/her degree and major, an academic record summary (no transcript), a summary of professional goals, a summary of thesis topic, information about professional experience, honors and awards, memberships in affiliations, and publications, as well as three letters of recommendation, and statements from his/her academic adviser are required to be submitted. Applicant should submit five copies of the application and recommendations. Selection is based upon demonstrated scholarship, demonstrated interest in research, and relevance of study and/or research.

 

Doctoral Fellowship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must be a member of Kappa Omicron Nu. Proof of degree and major, an academic record summary (no transcripts), a summary of professional goals, a summary of research problem, information about professional experience, honors and awards, memberships in affiliations, and his or her publications, as well as three letters of recommendation, statements from his or her academic advisor, and evidence of progress towards a degree. Applicant must submit five copies of his or her application and three recommendations are required to be submitted. Selection is based upon enrollment and progress in a doctoral program, demonstrated ability in graduate study, demonstrated interest and competence in research, and relevance of study and/or research to significant concerns related to home and family and the human sciences.

 

Research/Project Grant

Award: $4,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be part of a research team that has at least one member who is a member of Kappa Omicron Nu. The research approach must be integrative in nature and it must make connections across specializations to pursue problems or questions. A technical report must be submitted upon completion of the project. Applicant must submit a proposal that includes an abstract, a justification, a statement of objectives/hypotheses, a narrative description of the project, a management plan, a budget, literature citations, and supplementary materials. Applicant should submit five copies of the proposal and the proposal should be limited to 10 pages including the supplementary materials.

 

Edith Lois Wilson 4-H Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a graduating senior from District 1 Texas Associate of Extension Home Economists with at least three years of 4-H club work in District 1 and rank in the upper quarter of their graduating class. Applicant must major in the field of family and consumer science, home economics, or human science at a college or university within the state of Texas. Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA required while in college and community service and leadership must be demonstrated.

 

Holdrege Memorial Homes Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a graduate or graduating senior from a Phelps County high school who will pursue studies in health care, human services, long-term care or nursing. Minimum 2.0 GPA required.
