Applicant must be an undergraduate or graduate student who is lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual, or queer. Award recipient will have been determined to be likely to make a substantial contribution to society and be able to enhance society's perception of LGBTQ people, as well as increasing the GGDTQ community's self-esteem. Study in LGBTQ-related fields is not required. Successful candidates will demonstrate leadership and a commitment to excellence in their service, employment, or scholastic endeavors.

Fellowship looks to increase active participation in and networking at scientific meetings among pre- and post-doctoral students who are from groups underrepresented in the physiological sciences.
