Scholarships in High School Senior

Newton H. Baker Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a resident of Washington County in Vermont who will be the first generation to attend college, or faces significant barriers that limit access to education, and will attend an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Financial need and community service must be demonstrated.

 

Pedro Zamora Young Leaders Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be a current high school senior, college freshman, sophomore, or junior studying in the United States who demonstrates an active commitment to fighting AIDS and taking on roles of public service and leadership (e.g. providing peer-based prevention and education; engaging in grass-roots activism; raising public awareness; and/or delivering practical, emotional, or treatment support to people living with HIV/AIDS). Applicant must plan to continue to find ways to make a difference in the epidemic through their careers or through public service opportunities after their education is complete. Minimum 2.5 GPA required.

 

Burlington Business and Professional Women's Organization Science and Technology Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a female resident of Addison, Chittenden, Franklin, Grand Isle, or Lamoille County, VT who will pursue education or training in a science or technology field.

 

Ted Bridges Hospitality Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a resident of Vermont who will pursue education or training related to hospitality or tourism at an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Financial need and academic achievement must be demonstrated.

 

Vermont State Grange Cobble Hill Grange Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a resident of Vermont pursuing a degree in agriculture at an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Academic achievement and financial need must be demonstrated.

 

Women's Army Corps Veterans Association Scholarship

Award: $1,500, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be the child, grandchild, niece, or nephew of an Army service woman and must submit documentation of sponsor's military service. Applicant must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and be enrolled full time in a four-year program at an accredited college or university in the United States. Selection is based upon academic achievement, leadership ability through co-curricular activities and community involvement, biographical sketch, recommendations, and application form.

 

Oratorical Contest Scholarship

Award: $1,600, Deadline: January 27

Applicant must attend an accredited high school in Illinois and compete in the state oratorical contest.

 

Sister Elizabeth Candon Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a female resident of Vermont who is a single parent with primary custody of at least one child 12 years of age or younger and will attend an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Financial need must be demonstrated.

 

Paul Gallagher Entrepreneurial Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a resident of Chittenden County, VT who will pursue a degree in business or a related field at an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Academic achievement and community involvement must be demonstrated.

 

John Hudson Savage Memorial Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a resident of Chittenden County, VT who will pursue a degree in public safety at an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Financial need and community service must be demonstrated.

 

Vermont Police Association: Erwin Bugbee Memorial Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a resident of Vermont pursuing a degree in law enforcement at an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Financial need must be demonstrated.

 

Youth Activist Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: January 7

Applicant must be a Utah resident who is a current high school senior planning to enter an accredited college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking student. Applicant must have proof of strong commitment to civil liberties through some form of activism addressing such issues as equality, racial justice, free speech, religious freedom, tolerance, and privacy.

Award: $1,000, Deadline: September 30

Applicant must be a high school senior who plans to enroll as a full-time student at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States next fall; a high school graduate of this year who plans to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student; or a current, full-time undergraduate student at a college or university in the United States. An essay on one aspect of debt collection is required.

 

Vermont Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences (VTFCS) Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a resident of Vermont who will pursue a degree in a field related to family and consumer sciences at an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Academic achievement and financial need must be demonstrated.

 

Slovenian Women's Union Scholarship Program

Award: $2,000, Deadline: March 1

Students must be high school seniors, current college students or adult part time students at an accredited school. Applicants must be or become members of the SUA. High school senior applications must include a photo, FAFSA, a letter of recommendation from high school principal or teacher, brief autobiography, including personal and educational goals, a high school transcript including SAT and ACT scores, a letter of recommendation from an SWUA branch officer and a financial statement from their parents. College student applications must include a photo, FAFSA, a brief autobiography including personal and educational goals, letters of recommendation from a college professor/instructor and an SWUA branch officer and grade transcripts from the last two semesters. The committee considers life goals, scholastic achievement, financial need and involvement in school, church and community.

 

Salik Omar Shah Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: January 29

Applicant must be graduating from an Oxnard or Camarillo, CA high school or a graduate from Viewpoint school, Calabasas, CA. Applicant must have a minimum 3.5 GPA.

 

William Morris Craft Fellowship

Award: $4,750, Deadline: December 1

Award is for six-month building conservation training in the UK. Selection is based upon application and personal interview in London. Award is in British Pounds Sterling.

 

AIWF Culinary Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a Vermont resident who has lived in Vermont for at least 10 years and will pursue a degree in the culinary arts at an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Essay, letter of recommendation and financial need required.

 

Essex Classical Institute Award Scholarship

Award: $3,000, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior from Essex, VT who demonstrates financial need.

 

Stonyfield Farm Endowed Scholarship for St. Albans Cooperative Creamery

Award: $2,500, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a member or employee, or the spouse or dependent of a member or employee of the St. Albans Cooperative Creamery who will attend an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Financial need must be demonstrated.

 

Vermont Dairy Industry Association (VDIA) Memorial Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a resident of Vermont who will pursue a degree in dairy business/production, dairy sciences, or a related field at the University of Vermont or Vermont Technical College. Academic achievement and community service/involvement must be demonstrated.

 

Vermont Sheriffs' Association Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a resident of Vermont who will pursue a degree in law enforcement at an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Academic achievement and financial need must be demonstrated.

 

Warnicke Scholarship Race

Award: $5,000, Deadline: March 6

Applicant must have a current NBL license and have participated in BMX racing events sanctioned by the NBL for at least one year. Applicant must submit two letters of recommendation from a NBL official or state commissioner. Applicant should include a recent photo and personal letter telling the selection committee about his/her high school activities, hobbies, and reasons for wanting to continue his/her education. Interview required.

Applicant must be a resident of Vermont who is a single parent with primary custody of at least one child 12 years of age or younger, and will attend an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Financial need must be demonstrated.

 

Samara Foundation of Vermont Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a resident of Vermont who, through significant personal growth, public commitment, and activism, has demonstrated a dedication to the interests of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning community.

 

The Gordon A. Rich Memorial Scholarship

Award: $12,500, Deadline: February 18

Applicant must be a currently enrolled high school senior with a minimum 3.5 GPA who plans to be in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four-year college or university. Applicant must have a parent or guardian working in the financial industry. Award is to support the higher education goals of exceptionally qualified high school students whose parents work in the financial services industry.

 

Don and Peg Arnold Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a resident of one of the following towns in Vermont: Benson, Castleton, Cornwall, Hubbardton, Orwell, Shoreham, Sudbury, or Whiting. Applicant must attend an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Academic achievement, financial need and community involvement must be demonstrated.

National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Vermont Chapter Gilman Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a resident of Vermont enrolled in a CSWE-accredited BSW, MSW, or DSW/PhD program at an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Financial need, academic achievement and community service must be demonstrated.
