Jimmy A. Young Memorial Education Recognition Award

Award: $1,000, Deadline: June 1

Application, verification of enrollment in an accredited respiratory care training program, official transcript verifying a minimum 3.0 GPA, an original referenced paper on some aspect of respiratory care, and letters of recommendation are required to be submitted. Award consists a certificate of recognition, coach airfare, one night lodging, and registration for the AARC Congress.

 

William W. Burgin Jr. MD Education Recognition Award

Award: $2,500, Deadline: June 15

Application, letter from director of admissions verifying enrollment in an accredited Associate Degree respiratory care educational program, an original referenced paper on some aspect of respiratory care, original essay of at least 1,200 words describing how this award will assist the applicant in reaching the objective of a degree and the candidate's ultimate goals of leadership in health care are required to be submitted. Award consists of a certificate of recognition, one night lodging and registration for the AARC Congress.

 

NBRC/AMP Robert M. Lawrence, MD Education Recognition Award

Award: $2,500, Deadline: June 15

Application, letter from the director of admissions verifying enrollment in an accredited baccalaureate degree respiratory care educational program, an original referenced paper on some aspect of respiratory care, an original essay of at least 1,200 words describing how this award will assist the applicant in reaching the objective of a degree and the candidate's ultimate goals of leadership in health care, and letters of recommendation are required to be submitted. Award consists of a certificate of recognition, coach airfare, one night lodging, and registration for the AARC Congress.

 

C/AMP Gareth B. Gish, MS, RRT Memorial Postgraduate Education Recognition Award

Award: $1,500, Deadline: June 15

Applicant must be a respiratory therapist with at least a baccalaureate degree and a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Application; proof of acceptance into an advanced degree program of a fully-accredited school and proof of candidacy for a degree, three letters of ; reference attesting to the applicant's character, academic ability, and professional commitment; and essay consisting of at least 1,200 words describing how the ward will assist the applicant in reaching the candidate's ultimate goals of leadership in health care are required to be submitted. Award consists of a certificate of recognition, coach airfare, and one night lodging and registration for the AARC Congress. May also include cash award up to $1,500.

 

Charles W. Serby COPD Research Fellowship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: June 1

All fellows will be selected by ARCF Trustees from researchers having high quality abstracts accepted for presentation at AARC Congress. Since all accepted abstracts are considered, no formal application is required. Under special circumstances determined by the ARCF Board of Trustees, fellowships may be awarded to highly qualified researchers identified through other sources.

 

Philips Respironics Fellowship in Non-Invasive Respiratory Care

Award: $1,000, Deadline: June 1

All fellows will be selected by ARCF Trustees from researchers having high quality abstracts accepted for presentation at AARC Congress. Since all accepted abstracts are considered, no formal application is required. Under special circumstances determined by the ARCF Board of Trustees, fellowships may be awarded to highly qualified researchers identified through other sources. Fellowship is designed to foster projects dealing with non-invasive techniques to provide ventilatory support. Projects can be device development, device evaluation, cost effectiveness analysis, or education programs.

 

Care Fusion Fellowship in Neonatal and Pediatric Therapists

Award: $1,000, Deadline: June 1

All fellows will be selected by ARCF Trustees from researchers having high quality abstracts accepted for presentation at AARC Congress. Since all accepted abstracts are considered, no formal application is required. Under special circumstances determined by the ARCF Board of Trustees, fellowships may be awarded to highly qualified researchers identified through other sources. Fellowship is designed to foster projects in the field of neonatal and pediatric critical care. Projects involving original research in mechanical ventilation issues using bench models, animal models or human subjects are encouraged.

 

Forrest M. Bird, M.D., Ph.D., Sc.D. Lifetime Scientific Achievement Award

Nominations will be invited from the AARC Board of Medical Advisors, the Board of Directors of the American Association for Respiratory Care, the Trustees of the American Respiratory Care Foundation, National Board for Respiratory Care and the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care. The nominating group is responsible for submitting the following: A complete and current biographical report on their nominee (curriculum vitae). Only one nominee (who is not a past recipient of the award) is allowed from each group; a statement, including data, which indicates the basis for the nomination, keeping the principle criterion of 'outstanding scientific contributions' in mind. They should illustrate the nominee's impact on respiratory care through the training of physicians and therapists, noting their accomplishments, and through publications and lectures; and a brief personal comment on their candidate's interests and activities outside of medicine (i.e. civic, family, hobby). Award includes a plaque, coach airfare, one night lodging, and registration for the AARC Congress.

 

Dr. Charles H. Hudson Award for Cardiopulmonary Public Health

Applicant must submit a typed letter of 1,000 words or less that answers each of the following questions as appropriate for the nominee. How has the nominee promoted cardiopulmonary health and wellness? Outline and describe major activities, events, research, or public policy the nominee has affected. Describe how public cardiopulmonary health and awareness have been influenced through the efforts of the nominee. Why is the nominee a role model for others in terms of public health? How has the nominee promoted the objectives relative to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Please include any supporting documentation and, in the case of an individual, a curriculum vitae, if available. Applicants may include individuals, groups, or organizations whose primary effort has promoted cardiopulmonary health and wellness. Award includes a plaque, coach airfare, one night lodging, and registration for the AARC Congress.

 

Thomas L. Petty, M.D. Invacare Award for Excellence in Home Respiratory Care

Award: -, Deadline: June 1

A one-page, typed description of how applicant embodies excellence in home respiratory care relative to the following criteria is required: must currently be working in home respiratory care; must be a respiratory care practitioner; may not be employed by a manufacturer; may be involved in education; as well as the management and organization patient care; and should serve as an active patient advocate in home respiratory care with specific achievements that demonstrate leadership. Preference will be given to individuals who have participated in volunteer community efforts related to home respiratory care, in addition to meeting the medical needs of their patients, a curriculum vitae is required and supporting documentation should be included, if available. Award includes a plaque, coach airfare, one night lodging, and registration for the AARC Congress.

 

Hector Leon Garza, MD International Achievement Award

Applicant must exemplify a dedication to the advancement of safe, effective, and ethical practice of respiratory care in their home country and at the International level; promote the clinical practice and educational development of high quality respiratory outcomes; use evidence based standards of respiratory care appropriate to the special needs and resources of individual nations; facilite interdisciplinary communication regarding respiratory care between allied health professions, the medical specialties, nursing, service companies, and health care industry; encourage the creation and growth of related respiratory care organizations in their home country and internationally; enhance respiratory health promotion, disease prevention and rehabilitation for patients, care givers, and the general public as appropriate in their home country and internationally. Award includes crystal sculpture, coach airfare, one night lodging and registration for the AARC Congress.

 

NBRC/AMP H. Frederic Helmholz, Jr., MD Educational Research Fund

Award: $3,000, Deadline: June 1

A Master's Thesis or Doctoral Dissertation with practical value to the respiratory care profession are acceptable submissions by a candidate. Others may submit a research proposal for consideration.

 

Parker B. Francis Respiratory Research Grant

Award: $10,000, Deadline: December 31

Awarded to provide financial assistance for research programs dealing with respiratory care and related topics.

 

Jerome M. Sullivan Research Fund

In general, proposals for either applied clinical research or basic research in respiratory care and cardiopulmonary medicine will be considered. This will include research studies in the theory and practice of respiratory care and respiratory care management and education. A respiratory care practitioner must be designated as principal investigator or co-principal investigator. Award amount depends on quality of proposals and discretion of ARCF Board of Trustees.

 

Allied Healthcare Scholarship Program

Award: $4,000, Deadline: n/a

Selection is based upon financial need, career objectives within the next five to 10 years, community involvement, community background, and academic performance. Recipient commits to a one-year service obligation service practicing direct patient care in a medically underserved area (MUA) of California.

 

ACLS Medical Training Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: December 31

Applicant must be a high school senior or college student. Preference will be given to those currently enrolled in a nationally accredited nursing school, medical school, pharmacy school, dental school, respiratory therapy program, paramedic program, or emergency medical technician program. Essay required.

 

Health Research and Educational Trust Health Career Scholarships

Award: $2,000, Deadline: June 15

Applicants must be New Jersey residents. They must be undergraduate juniors, undergraduate seniors or graduate students enrolled in a nursing, allied health professions, healthcare administration or hospital administration degree program. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and must demonstrate financial need. Selection is based on the quality of the personal essay submitted as part of the application.
