Applicant must have completed 12 credits last semester and 24 credits at Bridgewater State College as of December 31. Selection is based upon financial need, career objectives within the next five to 10 years, community involvement, community background, and academic performance. Recipient commits to a one-year service obligation service practicing direct patient care in a medically underserved area (MUA) of California.

Applicant must be a student currently enrolled in one of the following healthcare programs: cardiac ultrasound, health information management, medical technology, nursing, pharmacy, or rehabilitation services. Minimum 3.0 GPA and 500 word essay required on this topic: "Why did you choose your career path, what have you done to support it, and how would it benefit FHN's service area?" Finalists are required to participate in an interview.

Applicants must be full-time students, be from a disadvantaged background, demonstrate financial need and be studying in a health field, including medicine, nursing, veterinary medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and others. They must be U.S. citizens, nationals or permanent residents. All other criteria are set by individual schools.

Applicants must be full-time graduate students pursuing a Ph.D. degree in neuroscience, physiology, pharmacology, psychology, biochemistry, genetics, nursing, pharmacy or other related areas; have a dissertation research project; have a qualified mentor who can supervise the project and have access to resources to conduct the project. The project must be in the U.S. and its territories. The award is based on the quality of the dissertation project, relevance to epilepsy, the applicant's qualifications, the mentor's qualifications and the quality of the proposed environment.
