Applicant must be a full-time student who is involved in a degree-seeking program, and who abides by the regulations governing college life. Selection is based upon academic qualifications, civic involvement, employment or organizational affiliation, essay, experience, letters of recommendation, student activities, and talents. Awards are based upon the recommendation of the Vice President of Enrollment and Director of Admission.

Applicant must be a high school senior or college student who is a legal resident of the United States between the ages of 17 and 24 and is currently enrolled in, or has been accepted to a college, university, or trade school. Applicant must have experience the death of a parent or legal guardian. A 500-word essay or three-minute video describing how the loss of the parent/guardian has affected them emotionally and financially is required.
