Scholarships in College Sophomore

W&J Scholars Award

Award: $15,000, Deadline: None

Applicant must be a full-time student who is involved in a degree-seeking program, and who abides by the regulations governing college life. Selection is based upon academic qualifications, civic involvement, employment or organizational affiliation, essay, experience, letters of recommendation, student activities, and talents. Awards are based upon the recommendation of the Vice President of Enrollment and Director of Admission.

 

LIFE Lessons Scholarship Program

Award: $15,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a high school senior or college student who is a legal resident of the United States between the ages of 17 and 24 and is currently enrolled in, or has been accepted to a college, university, or trade school. Applicant must have experience the death of a parent or legal guardian. A 500-word essay or three-minute video describing how the loss of the parent/guardian has affected them emotionally and financially is required.

 

Bach Organ & Keyboard Music Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: April 21

Applicant must be Rhode Island resident and a church organist who is an ABO member, or enrolled in college as a music major.

 

Frederick J. Benson Block Island Scholarship

Award: $1,500, Deadline: June 2

 

Bristol Children's Home Scholarship

Award: $1,500, Deadline: April 28

Applicant must have been a resident of Bristol, R.I. for a minimum of four years, be a U.S. citizen, be accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning, and have financial need. Priority will be given to undergraduate study

 

James J. Burns and C.A. Haynes Textile Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: May 5

For students enrolled in a textile program (Textile Design, Textile Engineering, Textile Science, etc.) at a school offering those programs such as: University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth, Rhode Island School of Design, Philadelphia University, North Carolina State University, Clemson University, Georgia Tech, Auburn University. Preference is given to sons and daughters of members of National Association of Textile Supervisors

Applicant must be a graduating senior from Classical High School who best demonstrates dedication to academic excellence and a love of learning. Student must have maintained an "A" average in Latin or economics, demonstrate financial need and submit an essay on a designated theme.

 

Edward Leon Duhamel Freemasons Scholarship

Applicants must be descendants of a member of Franklin Lodge or descendants of other freemasons who are Rhode Island residents. Preference is given to prior year's recipients.

 

J.D. Edsal Advertising Scholarship

Applicant must be a Rhode Island resident who is a college undergraduate (sophomore or above) studying advertising (public relations, marketing, graphic design, film or broadcast production) with the expectation of pursuing a career in one more of those fields.
