Scholarships in Music Teacher Education

Glenn Miller Scholarship

Award: $4,000, Deadline: March 15

Applicant must intend to make music a central part of their life and submit an audio cassette. Applicant should send a self-addressed, stamped envelope with request for competition announcement or visit sponsor's website for more information. Live audition required.

 

Lee A. Lyman Memorial Music Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 9

Applicant must be a resident of Vermont pursuing a degree in a music-related field at an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Academic achievement and financial need must be demonstrated.

 

Gunild Keetman Assistance Fund Scholarship

Award: $1,500, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must be a AOSA member who has been a member for the previous fiscal year, a U.S. citizen or have resided in the U.S. for the past five years, and have financial need.

 

Bernice Barnard Music Specialist Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: Varies

Applicant must be from the city of Ojai or Ventura. Applicant must submit three letters of recommendations, with two addressing applicant's musical qualifications.

 

AOSA Training and Projects (TAP) Grant

Award: $2,067, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must be an AOSA member who has been a member for the previous year, and must be a U.S. citizen or have resided in the U.S. for the past five years. Applicant must be actively involved in teaching elementary general music programs for low-income and racially diverse populations. Financial need is considered.

 

AOSA Research Grant

Award: $800, Deadline: January 1

Applicant must be a AOSA member, and have research experience for the past five years.

 

Elizabeth Massey Award

Award: $2,000, Deadline: November 1

Applicant must be a woman who is a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant enrolled for post-graduate studies in music, painting, or sculpture in Canada or abroad.

 

Shields-Gillespie Scholarship

Award: $880, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must be an AOSA member who has been a member for the previous fiscal year, a U.S. citizen or have resided in the U.S. for the past five years, have financial need, and is actively involved in pre-school or kindergarten programs for low-income and racially-diverse populations.

 

Nickels for Notes Scholarship

Award: $800, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must attend a Massachusetts high school and submit a letter of endorsement from the president of the sponsoring GFWC of Massachusetts club in the community of legal residence, recommendation from music teacher or high school principal, and high school transcript. Audition and SASE required.

 

Music Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: January 10

Selection is based upon audition and interview. Band and choral scholarships are available to music and non-music majors.

 

Worship and Performing Arts Scholarship

Audition is required.

 

Doctoral Grant

Applicant must be a senior who has a minimum 3.0 GPA and who has demonstrated the finest qualities of leadership through participation in campus organizations and has rendered service of significant benefit to the campus community.

 

Alumni Association Scholarship

Applicant must demonstrate community leadership and have met the award criteria established by the Alumni Association's Scholarship Committee. Applicant must have completed 12 credits last semester and 24 credits at Bridgewater State College as of December 31. Applicants who have transferred from Massachusetts Community Colleges, Dean College, or Quincy College are eligible to apply.

 

Music Scholarships
