New York Women in Communications Foundation Scholarship

Award: $10,000, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must be a student from New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania majoring or (for high school seniors) declaring a major in a communications-related field with a minimum GPA of 3.2. Selection is based upon academic excellence and need and involvement in the field of communications.

 

New York Women in Communications Foundation Scholarships

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student who intends to pursue or further a career in communications.

 

NAHJ General Scholarship

Award: $3,000, Deadline: March 30

Applicant must submit a sample of best work, resume, recommendations, essay, transcript, financial need statement, parents' W-2 forms, and application. Selection is based upon academic excellence, demonstrated interest in a journalism career, and financial need. For application, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope with request.

 

Harold E. Ennes/Robert Greenberg Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: July 1

Applicant must have a career interest in the technical aspects of broadcasting and must be recommended by two members of the SBE. Preference is given to SBE members and applicants who are employed at least part-time in broadcast engineering. Recipient must submit 400- to 500-word technical paper on broadcast engineering topic at end of award term.

 

Quarton McElroy Broadcast Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: April 15

Applicant must be a senior graduating from an Iowa high school who will attend an Iowa college or university.

 

Vincent T. Wasilewski Scholarship

Award: $4,000, Deadline: October 14

Applicant must be enrolled at a BEA-member institution. Selection is based upon substantial evidence of superior academic performance and potential to be an outstanding contributor to electronic media. Applicant must communicate interest in the broadcasting industry, and show evidence of high integrity, personal responsibilty, and professional responsibility.

 

NPPF Television News Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be enrolled at a recognized four-year college or university, have courses in TV news photojournalism in a program leading to a bachelor's degree, and submit a videotape with examples of work and a one-page biographical sketch including statement of professional goals. Tape should contain no more than three complete stories (total time for all stories: six minutes) with voice narration and natural sound. Applicant must also include a letter from his or her professor/advisor. Award is aimed at applicant with television news photojournalism potential, but with little opportunity and great need.

 

Atlanta Press Club Journalism Scholarship

Award: $1,500, Deadline: February 28

Applicant must demonstrate interest in journalism, be attending a school in Georgia, and demonstrate financial need. Selection is also based upon academic performance. Two awards available for both broadcast and print journalism applicants.

 

Robert C. Ziegler '84 Memorial Scholarship

Award: $1,050, Deadline: February 13

Applicant must be a full-time junior or senior student, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, submit evidence of outstanding achievement in communications, and demonstrate financial need.

 

Performance Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: April 1

Selection is based upon talent and potential in art, broadcasting, forensics, music, or theatre.

 

Research Grant

Award: $5,000, Deadline: January 28

Proposals dealing with issues currently confronting the U.S. commercial broadcast industry are required. The intent of this program is to stimulate interest in broadcast research, especially research on economic, social, or policy issues of importance to the broadcast industry.

 

AWC Scholarship

Award: $1,500, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a Washington resident attending a Washington four-year school. Selection is based upon financial need and academic achievement.

 

Broadcast Journalism Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: March 31

Applicant must be a Native American.

 

UNITY Television Internship

Applicant must be Native American, be at least age 18, have serious interest in a career in television journalism, be a full-time college student, be available for conference July 4-11, and submit proof of age and three copies each of application, essay, work samples, resume, and references.

 

Charles & Lucille King Family Foundation Scholarship

Award: $7,000, Deadline: April 1

Applicant must be a full-time film or television major who is about to enter their junior or senior year in a degree-granting program at a four-year college or university in the United States.

 

West Virginia Broadcasters Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must be West Virginia resident and an employee or family member of an employee of a station that is a member of the West Virginia Broadcasters Association. First priority given to applicants in the broadcast field; second to applicants who demonstrate financial need. GPA and any unusual circumstances are also considered.

 

Vincent Chin Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: April 16

Applicant must be a full-time college student who is pursuing journalism as a career.

 

Helen Johnson Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: July 8

Applicant must be a resident of Los Angeles, Ventura, or Orange Counties, California, or enrolled in an institution in Los Angeles, Ventura, or Orange Counties. Selection based upon accomplishments, potential, and financial need.

 

J. Edward McEvoy Scholarship

Award: $1,240, Deadline: February 13

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and a departmental 3.25 GPA. Statement of personal and professional goals and three references required.

 

J.D. Edsal Advertising Scholarship

Award: $1,500, Deadline: April 29

Applicant must be a Rhode Island resident who is a college undergraduate (sophomore or above) studying advertising (public relations, marketing, graphic design, film or broadcast production) with the expectation of pursuing a career in one more of those fields.

 

Chih-Chun Chang Memorial Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: April 30

Applicant must be an international student with a minimum 3.0 GPA who is involved in community activity and has financial need.

 

Patricia Collins Amaral Memorial Fund

Award: $600, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a senior who has a minimum 3.0 GPA and who has demonstrated the finest qualities of leadership through participation in campus organizations and has rendered service of significant benefit to the campus community.

 

Alumni Association Scholarship

Applicant must demonstrate community leadership and have met the award criteria established by the Alumni Association's Scholarship Committee. Applicant must have completed 12 credits last semester and 24 credits at Bridgewater State College as of December 31. Applicants who have transferred from Massachusetts Community Colleges, Dean College, or Quincy College are eligible to apply.

 

National Association of Black Journalists/CNN Scholarship

Award: $25,000, Deadline: March 17

Applicant must be a high school senior who has been accepted at an accredited college/university pursuing a career in broadcast journalism. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and proven community involvement. Two letters of recommendation and a 1,000 word essay are required to be submitted on the following questions: Why do you want to be a journalist? What do you feel is the biggest obstacle facing African-Americans? Why do you feel you are deserving of the CNN Scholarship?

 

Allison E. Fisher Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: March 17

Applicant must be a NABJ student member who is currently attending an accredited four-year university majoring in journalism (print, broadcast), with a minimum 3.0 GPA and participation in community service activities. Recipient will be formally recognized on the NABJ website and in the convention program book in addition to being asked to attend the "Evening with an Angel on a Jazz Note," held in Baltimore, which is the annual fundraiser for this scholarship.

 

Carole Simpson Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: March 17

Applicant must be a NABJ student member who is currently attending an accredited four-year university majoring in broadcast journalism with a minimum 2.5 GPA.

 

Daryl and Patricia Swenson Scholarship

Award: $10,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior from Benson High School who will attend a public or nonprofit college or university at least half time in the pursuit of a degree in radio broadcasting or broadcast communications.

 

Eugene Area Radio Stations Broadcast Scholarship

Award: $10,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a resident of Benton, Coos, Deschutes, Douglas, Lane, Lincoln, or Linn County in Oregon who is pursuing a degree in broadcast journalism, management, production, or other broadcast-related major at least half time. Minimum 2.5 GPA required.

 

Entercom Portland Scholarship

Award: $10,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a resident of Clackamas, Multnomah, Washington, or Yamhill County in Oregon or Clark County in Washington who is pursuing a degree in broadcasting or journalism. FAFSA required.
