Thurgood Marshall Scholarship

Award: $4,400, Deadline: May 30

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and minimum combined SAT Reasoning score of 1100 (composite ACT score of 25), be a U.S. citizen, and be recommended as an exceptional academic achiever or outstanding talent in creative and performing arts. Applicant must attend one of 38 historically black public institutions as a full-time student, and must demonstrate financial need.

 

Frederick Burkhardt Residential Fellowship for Recently Tenured Students

Award: $75,000, Deadline: October 2

Applicant must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Award is intended to support an academic year of residence at any national residential research centers. Program encourages exchanges across disciplinary lines that can be especially helpful to deepening and expanding the significance of projects in the humanities and related social sciences. Applications must be submitted through the ACLS Online Fellowship Application system (OFA). OFA is accessible through the Fellowship and Grant Programs section of the web site.

 

Fellowship on Women and Public Policy

Award: $9,000, Deadline: September 1

Applicant must be enrolled at a college or university in New York state, have completed at least 12 hours of graduate work, and demonstrate interest in improving the status of women through studies, research, employment, or volunteer work. Fellowship includes work at the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society and at either the New York state legislature, a state agency, or a statewide advocacy organization in Albany, N.Y.

 

Littleton-Griswold Research Grant

Award: $1,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a member of the American Historical Association. Preference will be given to doctoral students, non-tenured faculty, and unaffiliated scholars and those with specific research needs, such as the completion of a project or completion of a discrete segment thereof.

 

Justinian Society Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: April 15

Applicant must be a student of Italian descent who is attending a college in Illinois with at least one semester of law school completed. Completed application, brief written statement from applicant, faculty letter of recommendation, copy of most recently filed federal income tax return, and attendance at the Justinian Scholarship and Installation Dinner required.

 

Richard A. Wiebe Public Service Fellowship

Award: $33,000, Deadline: April 28

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and enrolled full-time in an accredited program. Recipient will be placed in the Majority Counsel/Program Services Office.

 

Roy A. Gustafson Memorial Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: January 11

Applicant must be a Ventura County resident who graduated from a public or private high school in Ventura County and who has successfully completed the first year of law school at an accredited college or university in the state of California.

 

Marine Policy Fellowship

Applicant must have completed a doctorate degree or possess equivalent professional qualifications and must be interested in the conservation and management of marine/coastal resources. Transcripts, at least three personal references, and research proposal are required to be submitted.

 

Law Offices of Randy Collins Scholarship

Applicant must be a college student currently attending a state-accredited law school or an undergraduate degree program at an accredited American college or university. Three essays are required.

 

Professional Training Scholarship

Applicant must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Selection is based upon academic merit. Award is in Canadian dollars.

 

Merv Leitch, Q.C. Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must have a minimum 3.2 GPA. Selection is based upon academic merit and extracurricular activities. One award is for a second-year student in constitutional law, and the other is for a third-year student in natural resources law. Award is in Canadian dollars.

 

Portland Police Association Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and must not be related to any member of the Portland Police Association. Financial need must be demonstrated. Scholarships will be awarded to one male and one female student.

 

Pi Gamma Mu Scholarship

Applicant must be a member of Pi Gamma Mu.

 

Oscar W. Rittenhouse Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a New Jersey resident accepted for admission to a law school and demonstrate financial need. Applicant must show interest in pursuing a career as a prosecutor.

 

James F. Connolly Congressional Information Service Scholarship

Award: $3,000, Deadline: April 1

Applicant must be a law librarian who is pursuing a law degree. Preference will be given to librarians who demonstrate an interest in government publications.

 

Judicial Internship Program

Award: -, Deadline: June 10 (fall); October 20 (spring); March 10 (summer)

Intern should possess: demonstrated high intellectual achievement; ability and willingness to work closely with others in a complex and sensitive organization; flexibility; self-sustaining motivation and initiative; and impeccable trustworthiness, discretion, and maturity. Good judgment is critical. To be eligible for selection, applicant must apply during, or for a term immediately following undergraduate study. The application consists of a cover letter, resume, college transcript, a short essay about a former Justice of the Supreme Court, and three letters of recommendation including at least one from an undergraduate course instructor. The internship is for eight hours per day, five days per week in the Office of the Counselor to the Chief Justice.
