Scholarships in College Sophomore

Merit Awards Program

Award: $5,000, Deadline: January 2

Applicant must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and a combined SAT score of 1200 on the critical reading and math sections (ACT composite score of 26 or higher).

 

Scarlett Family Foundation Scholarship

Award: $15,000, Deadline: December 15

Applicant must be a high school senior or college freshman, sophomore, or junior who will graduate or have graduated from high school in Middle Tennessee and will be enrolling in a four-year not-for-profit college or university. Applicant must be a business major or STEM major and be able to demonstrate financial need. Minimum 2.5 GPA required.

 

Scholarship for Children of Disabled, Deceased, Combat and POW/MIA Veterans

Award: $4,500, Deadline: Varies

Applicant must be the child of a deceased, disabled, or combat veteran or veteran listed as a POW/MIA. The veteran must have been a legal resident of North Carolina at the time of entry into service, or the child must have been born in North Carolina and resided there continuously since birth. Applicant must be attending a school in North Carolina.

 

Kansas Ethnic Minority Scholarship

Award: $1,850, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be an ethnic minority who is a Kansas resident, attending an eligible Kansas school. Selection is based upon academic performance, ethnic category, and financial need.

 

ADAF Scholarship

Award: $4,500, Deadline: April 17

Selection is based upon financial need, academic standing, and professional potential. Applicant must be member of ADA.

 

Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: March 8

Applicant must be an initiated member of Kappa Alpha Theta. Selection is based upon academic abilities, campus, community, and fraternity activities, and letters of reference.

 

Student Loan Program for Health, Science, & Mathematics

Award: $8,500, Deadline: February

Applicant must be a resident of North Carolina and demonstrate financial need.

 

Delaware National Guard State Tuition Assistance Program

Award: -, Deadline: September 15 (fall); January 15 (winter); March 15 (spring); June 15 (summer)

Applicant must be in a degree-seeking program and must agree to serve in either the Delaware Army or Air National Guard for at least six years.

 

Nebraska National Guard State Tuition Program

Award: -, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must be a member of the Nebraska National Guard.

 

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship

Award: $8,000, Deadline: Varies

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident, must have been a resident of Virginia for at least one year prior to the deadline, must be enrolled full time at an accredited college, university, or school of the arts, and must submit 10 slides of artwork for art, three films for film/video, or three research papers for art history.

 

CTA Scholarship for Dependent Children

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 3

Applicant must be claimed as dependent status on the current year's IRS forms. Applicant must be the dependent child of an active or retired California Teachers Association member.

 

Morton Gould Young Composers Award

Award: $2,500, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, or an international student with a student visa, and be under the age of 30. Applicant must applicant must submit a completed application form; one reproduction of a manuscript or score; biographical information including music studies, background and experience, and a list of compositions to date.

 

American Chemical Society (ACS) Scholars Program

Award: $5,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be African-American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian (including Alaskan and Hawaiian natives), who is a United States citizen or permanent resident. Applicant must be a full-time student in a two- or four-year program at an accredited school.

 

HENAAC Scholars Program

Award: $10,000, Deadline: April 30

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student who is of Hispanic descent or has demonstrated significant leadership and community service within the Hispanic community. Applicant must plan to attend or is currently attending a two- or four-year college or university in the United States or Puerto Rico pursuing a degree in science, technology, or math (health and medical fields are not eligible). Minimum 3.0 GPA required.

 

Diversity Building Scholarship

Award: $7,500, Deadline: January 15

Selection is based upon: commitment to diversity, educational background, family educational history, financial need, residency.

 

Educators for Maine Loan

Award: $3,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be a Maine resident.

 

Daniel Ashley and Irene Houston Jewell Foundation Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduate of Gordon Lee Memorial High School in Chickamauga, Ga.

 

Presidential Scholarship

Applicant must demonstrate outstanding leadership, have a minimum composite ACT score of 30 (combined SAT Reasoning score of 1330), and have an exceptional high school record.

 

Citadel Scholarship

Academic Scholarship

Selection is based upon academic merit and financial need.

 

Presidential Scholarship

Award: $22,000, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must have a minimum 3.5 GPA or rank in top tenth of class and have a minimum composite ACT score of 27 (combined SAT Reasoning score of 1220). Leadership and extracurricular activities must be demonstrated. Selection based upon exceptional academic preparation and performance.

 

San Francisco Conservatory of Music Scholarship

Award: $20,500, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be enrolled full time and have musical talent. Audition required.

 

Morris K. Udall Undergraduate Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: Early March

Scholarships are offered in any of the following three categories: (a) to students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to the environment; (b) to Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to tribal public policy; or (c) to Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to Native health care. Nomination by college or university is required.

 

O. Ray Moore Scholarship

Good Samaritan Foundation Scholarship for Nursing

Award: $1,000, Deadline: February 1

Selection is based upon applicant's financial need, aptitude, and dedication. Interview is required. Applicant must attend a Texas school.

 

American Legion Children and Youth Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: May 1

Selection is based upon financial need. Letters of recommendation and transcripts required.

 

Davis Putter Scholarship

Award: $10,000, Deadline: March 31

Applicant must be living in the United States and be planning to enroll in an accredited college in the United States. Fund provides grants to students actively working for peace and justice.

 

Returning Student Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 15

Applicant must be a college sophomore, junior, or senior with a minimum 3.5 GPA. Award amounts vary depending on institutional cumulative GPA. Recipients with GPA between 3.9 and 4.0 will receive $1,000; recipients with GPA between 3.5 and 3.89 will receive $500.

 

Elaine Chapin Memorial Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: April 30

Applicant must be afflicted with multiple sclerosis or have a parent/guardian afflicted with multiple sclerosis. Selection is based upon financial need, academic standing, and the impact with which multiple sclerosis has affected their lives. Applicant must plan to enroll or already be enrolled in an undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school with a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester in course work leading to a degree, license, or certificate.

 

Athletic Scholarships

Applicant must be an athlete playing one of the following sports: basketball, baseball, football, tennis, softball, soccer, volleyball, golf, or cheerleading. Applicant must contact athletic coach.
