Scholarships in Biochemistry

American Chemical Society (ACS) Scholars Program

Award: $5,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be African-American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian (including Alaskan and Hawaiian natives), who is a United States citizen or permanent resident. Applicant must be a full-time student in a two- or four-year program at an accredited school.

 

The SAPA Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program

Award: $1,000, Deadline: April 30

Applicant must be a high school senior who is planning to attend a full-time undergraduate program at an accredited four-year college/university with a major related to life sciences. Applicant must have a minimum 3.3 GPA, a minimum combined SAT Reasoning score of 2000, and be in the top tenth (or top quarter) of their class. Essay, two letters of recommendation, list of all awards received, list of Advanced Placement or Honors courses with grades, and transcripts are required to be submitted.

 

Members-at-Large Educational Reentry Award

Award: $1,500, Deadline: March 15

Applicant must be a woman who has returned to academic studies after an absence of at least three years. Applicant must demonstrate exceptional qualities of interest, excellence, and professional potential in chemistry and must be nominated by a member of Iota Sigma Pi or by a faculty member. Transcripts, essay, and two letters of recommendation required.

 

Knapman Chemistry Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: April 5

Applicant must have completed or be currently enrolled in Chemistry 353. Selection is based upon superior talent and achievement in chemistry or biochemistry.

 

American Society for Enology and Viticulture Scholarship

Applicant must be a resident of North America, demonstrate financial need, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA for undergraduate award (minimum 3.2 GPA for graduate award).

 

Howard Hughes Medical Institute Predoctoral Fellowship in Biological Sciences

Award: $31,000, Deadline: December 14

Applicant must submit GRE scores and be a U.S. citizen. If not a citizen, applicant must attend U.S. educational institution and submit TOEFL scores if English is not primary language. Applicant must have completed less than one year of post-baccalaureate work toward a Ph.D. or Sc.D. following completion of undergraduate or medical degree.

Carlson Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduate of any secondary school in Coshocton, Guernsey, Muskingum, or Tuscarawas counties in Ohio. Application and essay required. Scholarship offered in exchange for a three-year commitment to teach math or science in a Coshocton County public school.

 

Florence Moog Fellowship

Applicant must be an entering freshman student who plans to pursue an undergraduate major in biochemistry and molecular biology, biology, chemistry, or environmental biology.

 

Biochemistry Scholarship

Applicant must be enrolled at the University of Missouri at Columbia.

 

Bruce and Evelyn Davies Otto Fellowship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: January 14

Awarded based on academic record in high school and interview. Applicants must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.

 

Star Scholarship

Applicant must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. Selection based upon academic record and potential.

 

Patricia Collins Amaral Memorial Fund

Applicant must be a senior who has a minimum 3.0 GPA and who has demonstrated the finest qualities of leadership through participation in campus organizations and has rendered service of significant benefit to the campus community.

 

Alumni Association Scholarship

Applicant must demonstrate community leadership and have met the award criteria established by the Alumni Association's Scholarship Committee. Applicant must have completed 12 credits last semester and 24 credits at Bridgewater State College as of December 31. Applicants who have transferred from Massachusetts Community Colleges, Dean College, or Quincy College are eligible to apply.

 

Clare Boothe Luce Scholarship

NSF Success Scholarship

Applicant must be an incoming freshmen with a minimum combined SAT Reasoning score of 1100 (composite ACT score of 24). Financial need of at least $5,000 (determined by FAFSA) is required. Applicant must major in chemistry, biochemistry, or biology with a chemistry minor.

 

Sertoma Club of Greenwood, Dr. Robert L. Hamill Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating senior from a Johnson County high school who will pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an accredited college or university in the field of biochemistry, chemistry, or microbiology.

 

Life Science Scholarship

Applicant must be a new entering student (fall term entry only) who has been accepted as a full-time student. Applicant must plan to major in one of the following disciplines: biology, biochemistry, environmental science, forensic science, or marine science (biology or chemistry).

 

Bioscience Education Program Scholarship

Applicant must be a high school student who would like to obtain a bioscience/biotechnology education. Recipient must plan to study at The Voyage Institute.
