Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago Academic Scholarship Program

Award: $8,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be Jewish who was born/raised in the Chicago Metropolitan area or who has one year of employment in the Chicago area prior to entering school. Undergraduate applicants must be entering their junior or senior year; graduate applicants must be entering an accredited, professional graduate school as a full-time student. Applicant must plan to remain in Chicago after completing school and have the intention to be in a career in the helping professions. Personal interview required.

 

Congressional Fellowship on Women and Public Policy

Award: $11,500, Deadline: May 20

Awarded to graduate students or those who received a graduate degree within the previous 18 months with a proven commitment to equity for women; fellowship is for working one academic year as a congressional legislative aide in Washington, DC.

 

Selected Professions Fellowship (Focus Professions)

Award: $12,000, Deadline: January 10

Applicant must be a minority woman who is a graduate professional degree candidate completing her final year of study. Applicant studying medicine may be eligible for support in third year. Applicant a must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

 

Law School Scholarship

Award: $6,000, Deadline: June 30

Applicant must be an exceptional student. Selection is based upon an applicant's financial situation, academic achievement, potential for law study, involvement in and commitment to the Hispanic community, reasons for studying law, and future plans. Applicant must submit application, letter of recommendation, transcript, and test scores.

 

Frank Knox Memorial Fellowship

Award: $20,000, Deadline: November 30

Applicant must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who has recently graduated or is about to graduate from an institution which is a member of or affiliated with AUCC. Applicants presently studying in the U.S. are not eligible.

 

Margaret Freeman Bowers Fellowship

Award: $8,000, Deadline: Early January

Applicant must be a woman and a graduate of Wellesley Coll who is planning for her first year of full-time graduate study in the field of law, public policy/public administration, or social work, including M.Bus.Admin. candidates planning a career in social services. Selection is based upon merit and financial need. Preference is given to applicants who have not previously held the award.

 

Justinian Society Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: April 15

Applicant must be a student of Italian descent who is attending a college in Illinois with at least one semester of law school completed. Completed application, brief written statement from applicant, faculty letter of recommendation, copy of most recently filed federal income tax return, and attendance at the Justinian Scholarship and Installation Dinner required.

 

Roy A. Gustafson Memorial Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: January 11

Applicant must be a Ventura County resident who graduated from a public or private high school in Ventura County and who has successfully completed the first year of law school at an accredited college or university in the state of California.

 

Marine Policy Fellowship

Award: -, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must have completed a doctorate degree or possess equivalent professional qualifications and must be interested in the conservation and management of marine/coastal resources. Transcripts, at least three personal references, and research proposal are required to be submitted.

 

AGBU Fellowships for U.S. Based Study

Award: $7,500, Deadline: April 30

Applicant must be of Armenian heritage, be a full-time graduate student seeking a master's or doctorate degree at a highly- or most-competitive U.S. institution, and have a minimum 3.5 GPA in undergraduate work.

 

George A. Strait Minority Stipend

Award: $3,500, Deadline: April 1

Applicant must be a minority college graduate with law library experience who is a degree candidate at an accredited library or law school.

 

Library Degree for those with JD

Award: $1,000, Deadline: April 1

Applicant must be a library school graduate who is working toward a law degree at an accredited law school, has no more than 36 semester hours of study remaining before qualifying for the law degree, and who has meaningful law library experience.

 

Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: May 31

Applicant must be beginning or already enrolled in an approved degree-bearing program of study in New York State that leads to licensure in a particular profession. Purpose of award is to increase representation of minority and disadvantaged individuals in New York State licensed professions.

 

Frederick T. Bonham Law Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: November 1 (priority)

Selection is based upon outstanding academic performance. Financial need and extracurricular activities are considered.

 

John W. Green Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: January 15

Selection is based upon merit of members of the three law classes who have unusual ability in the general development of character, ambition to excel, and interest in the general development and advancement of the ethical standards of the legal profession.

 

Robert J. Emery Student Support Fund

Award: $6,000, Deadline: September 1

Applicant must be a second-year student and demonstrate superior academic performance and financial need.

 

E.W. Costello Entrance Scholarship

Award: $3,500, Deadline: May 1

Selection is based upon academic record, LSAT score, maturity, extracurricular activities, work experience, and community involvement. No application required. Award is in Canadian dollars.

 

Merv Leitch, Q.C. Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must have a minimum 3.2 GPA. Selection is based upon academic merit and extracurricular activities. One award is for a second-year student in constitutional law, and the other is for a third-year student in natural resources law. Award is in Canadian dollars.

 

LSAT Scholarship

Award: $1,300, Deadline: None

Awarded automatically based upon applicant's average score on LSAT (Law School Admission Test), for first two semesters (at rate of 50% of award per semester). Amount of award depends on score.

 

Trustees' Scholarship

Award: $1,600, Deadline: None

Applicant must have completed one full year of study with a minimum 19 units. Awarded automatically to top three-tenths of eligible students. Amount of award is based upon rank/GPA and number of units per semester. Financial need is not considered.

 

Thomas T. Hayashi Memorial Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: April 1

Applicant must be a member of JACL. Selection is based upon personal statement, letters of recommendation, transcripts, work experience, and community involvement.

 

Woodrow Wilson Memorial Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: June 15

Applicant must be enrolled in the School of Law and be a lineal descendant of worthy Confederates or collateral descendant who is a member of the Children of the Confederacy or the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be enrolled in an accredited college or university and carry a minimum of 12 hours each semester. Applicant must pass entrance examination of prospective college or university. Applicant must submit proof of Confederate Military Record, line of descent from Confederate ancestor, a letter of endorsement from sponsoring Chapter, a letter of recommendation, complete financial report, official transcripts, an essay on the significance of a southern heritage, and a wallet size photo. Original and four copies of the application forms and five copies of all documents, certificates, and letters must be submitted to the Division Director of Education. All inquiries must include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

 

Oscar W. Rittenhouse Memorial Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: June 15

Applicant must be a New Jersey resident accepted for admission to a law school and demonstrate financial need. Applicant must show interest in pursuing a career as a prosecutor.

 

Judicial Internship Program

Award: -, Deadline: June 10 (fall); October 20 (spring); March 10 (summer)

Intern should possess: demonstrated high intellectual achievement; ability and willingness to work closely with others in a complex and sensitive organization; flexibility; self-sustaining motivation and initiative; and impeccable trustworthiness, discretion, and maturity. Good judgment is critical. To be eligible for selection, applicant must apply during, or for a term immediately following undergraduate study. The application consists of a cover letter, resume, college transcript, a short essay about a former Justice of the Supreme Court, and three letters of recommendation including at least one from an undergraduate course instructor. The internship is for eight hours per day, five days per week in the Office of the Counselor to the Chief Justice.

 

Fredrikson & Byron Foundation Minority Scholarship

Award: $15,000, Deadline: March 31

Applicant must be a minority student who is currently enrolled in the first year of law school.

 

Harry J. Donnelly Memorial Scholarship

Award: $450, Deadline: May 18

Applicant must be a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon who is pursuing an undergraduate degree in accounting or a graduate degree in law, has a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA, and plans to enroll full time in the following year. Applicant should have a demonstrated record of leadership within the chapter, on campus, or in the community.

 

Virgil Hawkins Fellowship

Award: $16,617, Deadline: March 15

Applicant must be a black law student eligible to return for second- or third-year study, must be nominated by the College of Law, and must document financial need.

 

Lake Lytal Jr. African-American Student Scholarship

Award: $3,000, Deadline: March 15

Applicant must be an African-American demonstrating academic merit and financial need.

 

Benedict A. Silverman Minority Tuition Scholarship
