Mark Twain Nonresident Scholarship

Applicant must rank in top 50% of graduating high school class, have a minimum composite ACT score of 27 (combined SAT I score of 1210), and be a resident of any state except Missouri.

 

Battelle Scholarship

Applicant must be a first-year traditional undergraduate student from Franklin or contiguous counties who is able to demonstrate potential for leadership, creativity, and motivation in an essay. Minimum 3.4 cumulative GPA and composite ACT score of 24 (combined SAT Reasoning score of 1090) required.

 

Alice Powers Scholarship

Applicant must be a resident of Mahoning or Trumbull County, Ohio and be nominated by a counselor or teacher. Selection is based upon academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and counselor and teacher recommendations.

 

Dr. Sol Asch Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must be enrolled at Shawnee State University. Minimum 3.5 GPA required.

 

David G. Besco Memorial Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a resident of Ohio majoring in teacher education with a concentration in mathematics. Minimum 3.5 GPA required.

 

Galen S. Besco Memorial Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a resident of Ohio majoring in teacher education with a concentration in english at Shawnee State University. Minimum 3.5 GPA required.

 

Dr. J.R. Boynton Memorial Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a resident of Scioto County currently enrolled in a four-year degree program. Minimum 3.25 GPA required.

 

Community Common Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior from a zip code covered by the Community Common's area of circulation who has shown an interest in communication or journalism. Minimum 3.0 GPA required.

 

Betty C. Edwards Nursing Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a resident of Amas or Scioto County, OH pursuing an associate or bachelors degree in nursing full-time. Minimum 3.0 GPA required.

 

Lillian Wiltshire Thomas Scholarship

Award: $1,500, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must be a graduate of Portsmouth West High School, Ohio, in the year award is given, must have been a student of Washington Local School District for four years, must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, must be pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree, must demonstrate financial need, and must be active in church, community, and school.

 

Virginia Frantz and Maurice W. Cogan Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a resident of the Cleveland, Ohio, area, living within 50 miles of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Preference is given to graduate of St. Ignatius High School.

 

Project BEST Scholarship

Applicant must be an employee or dependent of employee of a construction company or labor union sponsoring Project BEST (Building Efficiency by Striving Together) in Wheeling, W.Va., or Follansbee, W.Va./Steubenville, Ohio, area. Application is available from and should be submitted to Project BEST.

 

Out-of-State Collegiate Scholar

Applicant must be an out-of-state first-time freshman student with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA and a minimum composite ACT score between 28 and 29 (combined SAT Reasoning score between 1250-1320).

 

Out-of-State Presidential Scholar

Applicant must be an out-of-state first-time freshman student with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA and minimum composite ACT score between 32 and 36 (combined SAT Reasoning score between 1400 and 1600).

 

Out-of-State Capstone Scholar

Applicant must be an out-of-state first-time freshman student with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA and a minimum composite ACT score of 27 (combined SAT Reasoning score between 1210 and 1240).

 

Appalachian Regional Grant

Applicant must live in Appalachian County as defined by the Appalachian Regional Commission.

Ohio Safety Officers College Memorial Fund

Applicant must be an Ohio resident attending a participating Ohio school, who is the child or spouse of a peace officer or firefighter killed in the line of duty during Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, or a combat zone designated by the President of the United States.

 

Shackelford Scholarship

Applicant must be a high achieving graduate of a Columbus City School. Selection is based on academic record, extracurricular achievements, essays, and secondary counselor and teacher recommendations. Individual on-campus interview by January 15 is required.

Applicant must be a resident student of Ohio who demonstrates potential for superior academic work and outstanding leadership qualities. Selection depends on the candidate's potential to contribute both to the university's classroom and community, as well as the strength of academic record, extracurricular achievements, essay, and secondary counselor and teacher recommendations. Nominations will be made based on the regular Denison application.
