Scholarships in Chemical Engineering

American Chemical Society (ACS) Scholars Program

Award: $5,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be African-American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian (including Alaskan and Hawaiian natives), who is a United States citizen or permanent resident. Applicant must be a full-time student in a two- or four-year program at an accredited school.

 

National Physical Science Consortium Graduate Fellowship

Award: $20,000, Deadline: November 30

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen who is eligible to pursue graduate study at a participating NPSC-member university. Minimum 3.0 GPA, application, transcripts, GRE general exam scores, and three to five letters of recommendation required.

 

SPE Foundation Scholarship

Award: $7,500, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must plan a career in the plastics industry. Financial need must be demonstrated. Three letters of recommendation, transcript, and essay are required. One award is reserved for two applicants from specific western Pennsylvania counties; one award is reserved for an applicant of Mexican heritage who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; one award is reserved for an applicant from California, Oregon, Washington, or Arizona.

 

The SAPA Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program

Award: $1,000, Deadline: April 30

Applicant must be a high school senior who is planning to attend a full-time undergraduate program at an accredited four-year college/university with a major related to life sciences. Applicant must have a minimum 3.3 GPA, a minimum combined SAT Reasoning score of 2000, and be in the top tenth (or top quarter) of their class. Essay, two letters of recommendation, list of all awards received, list of Advanced Placement or Honors courses with grades, and transcripts are required to be submitted.

 

Nancy Lorraine Jensen Memorial Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: April 1

Applicant must be a woman between the ages of 17 and 35, a U.S. citizen, and a current member, or daughter or granddaughter of a current of Sons of Norway member (membership must be for a minimum of three years). Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student who has completed at least one term (quarter or semester) of her studies after being accepted as a major either in chemistry, physics or chemical, electrical, or mechanical engineering. Selection is based upon long-term career goals and clarity of student plan, academic potential and evidence of ability to succeed, and letters of recommendation giving specific evidence of good character, eagerness, and earnestness, and ambition in the field of science and engineering. Application, essay, grade transcript, and three letters of recommendation are required.

 

Dorothy Lemke Howarth Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, a woman, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicant must be in an ABET-accredited engineering program, engineering at SWE-approved institution, or computer science in a CSAB-accredited program or at an ABET-accredited or SWE-approved institution.

 

Men's Auxiliary of the SWE (MASWE) Scholarship

Applicant must be a woman and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicant must demonstrate financial need and be in an ABET-accredited engineering program, engineering at SWE-approved institution, or computer science in a CSAB-accredited program or at an ABET-accredited or SWE-approved institution.

TRW Scholarship

Applicant must be a woman and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicant must be in an ABET-accredited engineering program, engineering at SWE-approved institution, or computer science in a CSAB-accredited program or at an ABET-accredited or SWE-approved institution.

General Motors Foundation Scholarship

Applicant must be a woman, have a minimum 3.5 GPA, demonstrate leadership with a position of responsibility in a student organization, and have a career interest in the automotive industry and/or manufacturing environment. Applicant must be in an ABET-accredited engineering program, engineering at SWE-approved institution, or computer science in a CSAB-accredited program or at an ABET-accredited or SWE-approved institution.

 

Eastman Kodak Scholarship

Applicant must be the child of an Eastman Kodak employee, be a U.S. citizen, rank in top quarter of class, and be a National Merit scholar. Selection is based upon academic excellence without regard to financial need.

Methanex Corporation Bursary

Applicant must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident with a minimum 2.6 GPA. Selection is based upon academic merit, extracurricular activities, and financial need. Interest in working in a chemical plant may also be considered. Award is in Canadian dollars.

 

Lockheed-Martin Corp. Scholarship

Applicant must be a woman with a minimum 3.5 GPA. Applicant must be in an ABET-accredited engineering program, engineering at SWE-approved colleges and universities, or computer science in a CSAB-accredited program or at an ABET-accredited or SWE-approved institution.

 

Northrop Grumman Scholarship

Award: $3,000, Deadline: February 28

Applicant must be a female full-time student at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Engineering. Focus on one of the following disciplines is required: civil and materials, electrical and computer, computer science, or mechanical engineering. Applicant must show evidence of above average academic performance (minimum GPA 3.0/4.0). Women of color (African American, Latina, Native American) are encouraged to apply. Application coversheet, biographical statement, current resume or CV (list your education and employment history), UIC transcript, proof of financial aid eligibility, proof of U.S. citizenship (copy of birth certificate or passport), and two letters of recommendation (include at least one from a UIC instructor) required.

 

Sonat Foundation Minority Engineering Scholarship

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and a full-time student and rank in the top quarter of class. Preference is given to petroleum and geological engineering majors and then to chemical and mechanical engineering majors.

 

Celanese Corporation Scholarship

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and a minimum combined SAT I score of 1100 (composite ACT score of 24).

 

National Academy for Nuclear Training Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must be enrolled full-time in an accredited four-year institution and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicant must submit essay describing educational goals and interest in careers in the nuclear power industry. Applicant must list planned or desired summer employment, co-op assignments, or internships. Applications must be endorsed and sent by the applicant's school. Selection is based upon academic performance, eligible major, and potential for career in the nuclear power industry. Preference will be given to those students indicating specific interest in and preparation for careers in the U.S. nuclear power industy. Students with commitments/obligations that prevent availability for possible nuclear power industry employment immediately after graduation are not eligible.
