Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship

Award: $11,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a high school, pre-university, secondary school, undergraduate, or graduate student who is or will be studying optics, photonics, or a related field. Selection based upon prospect for long-term contribution that the application will make to the field of optics, photonics, or related field.

 

Elon College Fellows Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: January 10

Applicant must complete essay and interview if selected. Selection is based upon SAT Reasoning or ACT scores, GPA, and high school curriculum.

 

National Physical Science Consortium Graduate Fellowship

Award: $20,000, Deadline: November 30

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen who is eligible to pursue graduate study at a participating NPSC-member university. Minimum 3.0 GPA, application, transcripts, GRE general exam scores, and three to five letters of recommendation required.

 

STEM Teachers Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: April 1

Applicant must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree, graduate degree, or credential/licensure for the purpose of teaching STEM (science, technology, engineering, or math) subjects at a United States middle or secondary school. Applicant must be attending an accredited U.S. college or university. Graduate-level candidates must be currently enrolled in at least two semester equivalent classes; credential/licensure students must have completed a bachelor's degree in a STEM major.

 

CfA Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

Award: $66,500, Deadline: October 30

Applicant must have received a Ph.D. degree between January 1, 2014 and September 1, 2015. Applicant is expected to pursue research programs of their own conception and design, and they should state clearly why they believe that their professional goals would be furthered through research opportunities at the CfA. Demonstration of capability for original research through first-author referred publications in major astronomy journals is required.

 

ROTC Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a United States citizen enrolled in an accredited four-year institution in the United States who is active in a ROTC program and nominated by professors of military science, naval science, or aerospace studies. Applicant must be able to demonstrate academic excellence, good moral character, potential to serve as an officer in the U.S. Armed Forces, and financial need.

 

Summer Student Research Assistantship

Award: $6,280, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen currently enrolled in a U.S. institution. Application, letter describing educational background, goals, and scientific experience, transcripts, and letters of recommendation must be submitted.

 

Postdoctoral Fellowship

Award: $55,000, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must be a recent recipient (within two or three years) of a doctoral degree and have an interest in oceanographic sciences or engineering. Transcripts, at least three recommendations, and a statement of research interests/career plans are required to be submitted. Selection is based upon applicant's research potential.

 

APS Scholarship for Minority Undergraduate Physics Majors

Award: $3,000, Deadline: First Friday in February

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident who is African-American, Hispanic American, or Native American. Applicant must be a high school senior, college freshman, or college sophomore who is majoring or planning to major in physics. Minimum award amount is granted to new applicants; maximum award amount for recipients looking to renew their award.

 

War Veterans and Disabled Veterans Scholarship

Award: $2,500, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be a United States citizen enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year institution in the United States who meets the following criteria: is on active duty in the uniformed military services or is an honorably discharged U.S. military veteran (including Reservist and National Guard personnel); who has served in Enduring Freedom Afghanistan or Iraqi Freedom combat operations; or is disabled as a result of combat operations in OEF or OIE. Applicant must be able to submit a copy of Certificate of Service or Discharge Form DD214. Veterans returning to school may apply as a freshman and/or be enrolled as a part-time student in a two-year or four-year institution.

 

Math and Science Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must be a West Virginia resident enrolled full time at an accredited college or university, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, and demonstrate good moral character.

 

The SAPA Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program

Award: $1,000, Deadline: April 30

Applicant must be a high school senior who is planning to attend a full-time undergraduate program at an accredited four-year college/university with a major related to life sciences. Applicant must have a minimum 3.3 GPA, a minimum combined SAT Reasoning score of 2000, and be in the top tenth (or top quarter) of their class. Essay, two letters of recommendation, list of all awards received, list of Advanced Placement or Honors courses with grades, and transcripts are required to be submitted.

 

STEM Major Scholarship

Award: $3,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be a United States citizen enrolled at an accredited four-year institution who is enrolled in a degree-granting, graduate-level STEM major (science, technology, engineering, and math) program.

 

ASGC Fellowship

Award: $22,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen who is a full-time student with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicant must submit a research proposal related to space and including an extramural research experience at a NASA field center, plan to be involved in ASGC outreach activities, and demonstrate career interests congruent to NASA's aerospace, science, and technology programs. Selection is based upon research proposal, letters of recommendation, resume, standardized test scores, and transcript.

 

SAO Predoctoral Fellowship Program

Award: $32,232, Deadline: Rolling

Applicant must be a graduate student wishing to carry out all or part of their thesis research at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. Completion of preliminary coursework and examinations prior to start of the SAO Predoctoral Program and approval of Department Head at applicant's university are required. Application must list the SAO scientist who has agreed to serve as a sponsor for each proposed research project; applicant must directly contact the scientist in their particular research area.

 

Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Fellowship

Current curriculum vitae or resume, at least three recommendations, and two personal statements are required to be submitted.

 

American Council of Independent Laboratories Scholarship

Award: $4,000, Deadline: April 4

Awards granted for study only within United States. Applicant must submit a resume or personal statement, two letters of recommendation, transcripts, and information on any other scholarships or grant aid that is currently being received. Selection is based upon applicant's academic achievement, career goals, leadership, and financial need.

 

Underserved Students Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be a full-time student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in an eligible major at an accredited two- or four-year Historically Black College or University in the United States. Special consideration will be given to military enlisted candidates/military veterans.

 

U.S. Navy Engineering Internship

Award: -, Deadline: January 31

Applicant must show an interest in engineering, mathematics, physics or marine biology. Internship will involve work with a world class scientist or engineer on hull, mechanical and electrical technologies for U.S. Navy ships and ship systems.

 

Nancy Lorraine Jensen Memorial Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: April 1

Applicant must be a woman between the ages of 17 and 35, a U.S. citizen, and a current member, or daughter or granddaughter of a current of Sons of Norway member (membership must be for a minimum of three years). Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student who has completed at least one term (quarter or semester) of her studies after being accepted as a major either in chemistry, physics or chemical, electrical, or mechanical engineering. Selection is based upon long-term career goals and clarity of student plan, academic potential and evidence of ability to succeed, and letters of recommendation giving specific evidence of good character, eagerness, and earnestness, and ambition in the field of science and engineering. Application, essay, grade transcript, and three letters of recommendation are required.

 

American Physical Society Scholarship for Undergraduate Physics Majors

Award: $3,000, Deadline: First Friday in February

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of black, Hispanic, or Native American descent. Applicant must be a college freshman or sophomore studying physics. Minimum award amount is granted to new applicants; maximum award amount for recipients looking to renew their award.

 

Arthur Holly Compton Fellowship

Applicant must be an entering freshman student who plans to pursue an undergraduate manor in earth and planetary sciences, environmental earth sciences, mathematics, or physics.

 

Jerry B. Addy Memorial Scholarship

Bodine Annual Scholarship

Applicant must have a minimum cumulative 2.7 GPA.

 

Julian E. Carnes Scholarship

Applicant must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA and be a resident of North or South Carolina.
