Applicant must be a current employee who is enrolled in a nursing or allied health (e.g. radiology technology, respiratory therapy, medical technology, physical therapy, physical therapy assistant, occupational therapy, or physician assistant) undergraduate program or a non-employee who is enrolled in a nursing program leading to a B.S.N. or higher. Minimum 2.5 GPA, two letters of recommendation, transcript, and letter of acceptance/good standing required. Award requires a work commitment at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD, upon completion of degree program.

Applicant must be a pianist or string player (viola, violin, cello, or bass). Recipient will also receive a performance with the San Angelo Symphony (an additional $1,000 performance fee). Piano and string division winners will each receive $2,000 and runner-ups will receive $1,000. Honorable mentions also awarded totaling $1,000.

Applicant must compete in and win the High School Constitutional Speech Contest. An oration of eight to ten minutes on some phase of the United States Constitution and a three to five minute oration on an assigned topic drawn at random are required to be presented.

Selection is based upon talent and participation in theatre. Freshmen must meet two of the following requirements: minimum 2.0 GPA, rank in top half of class, minimum composite ACT score of 20. Upperclassmen and transfer applicants must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Participation is required in certain theatre events. Audition, speech communication, and theatre classes are required.

Applicant must be from a low-income family and plan to attend an Illinois school. Selection is based upon field of interest, financial need, community involvement, and academic achievement. Award may be used at Illinois state schools only.
