Scholarships in Special Education

Special Education Services Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: None

Applicant must be an Indiana resident with a minimum 2.0 GPA who agrees to teach in Indiana upon certification. Award may be used at Indiana schools only.

 

Virginia Teaching Scholarship/Loan

Award: $3,720, Deadline: None

Applicant must be a male, preparing to teach in elementary and middle school, be a minority student, or be preparing to teach in chemistry, earth sciences, foreign language, mathematics, physics, special education, or technology education. All applicants must be a resident of Virginia, have a recommendation from the school, and have a minimum 2.7 GPA. Award may be used at Virginia colleges or universities with state approved teacher preparation programs only.

 

ACRES Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: December 10

Applicant must be a certified teacher employed (or have been employed) by a rural school district, be working with students with disabilities or be "retooling" for work in special education, be pursuing a goal of increasing skills in special education, and be a U.S. citizen. Selection is based upon application, essay, and letters of reference.

 

Child Welfare Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 15

Applicant must be a Wisconsin resident who enrolled at an accredited school and is the child, wife, or widow of a veteran; granddaughters and great-granddaughters of veterans are eligible if they are American Legion Auxiliary members. Minimum 3.2 GPA and financial need required.

 

Bishop Charles P. Greco Graduate Fellowship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must be a member or the wife, son, or daughter of a member of the Knights of Columbus. Award is for preparation of classroom teachers of children with intellectual disabilities.

 

Order of the Alhambra Scholarship

Award: $400, Deadline: January 1; July 1

 

Hildegard Schaer Foundation Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: None

Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Financial need must be demonstrated.

 

Ingram/Burger King Scholarship

Award: $1,250, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduate of Arab High School, a resident of Marshall County in Ala., and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

 

Career Incentive Program

Award: $3,000, Deadline: June 1 (fall); December 15 (spring)

Applicant must have a 3.0 GPA.

 

J.W. Martin and A.M. Martin Phillips Scholarship

Award: $4,000, Deadline: November 1 (fall); May 1 (spring)

Applicant must be enrolled full time in PROTEACH program. Those applying for awards of more than $2,000 must demonstrate financial need.

 

North Carolina Council of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: April

Applicant must be a rising student and demonstrate financial need.

 

International Order of Allhambra

Award: $1,600, Deadline: July 31; January 31

 

Special Education/Rehabilitative Science Freshman Scholarship

Award: $3,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must rank in the top fifth of class and have a minimum combined SAT I score of 1000. Selection is based upon academic achievement.

 

Patricia Collins Amaral Memorial Fund

Award: $600, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a senior who has a minimum 3.0 GPA and who has demonstrated the finest qualities of leadership through participation in campus organizations and has rendered service of significant benefit to the campus community.

 

Alumni Association Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must demonstrate community leadership and have met the award criteria established by the Alumni Association's Scholarship Committee. Applicant must have completed 12 credits last semester and 24 credits at Bridgewater State College as of December 31. Applicants who have transferred from Massachusetts Community Colleges, Dean College, or Quincy College are eligible to apply.

 

Class of 1962 Scholarship

Award: $1,500, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA in major courses and must have completed 30 credits.

 

Melhuish Elementary Education Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must have a minimum 3.3 GPA and between 64 and 95 credits.

 

Corrine L. Miller Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must demonstrate attitudes and skills of an innovative, risk-taking teacher and community leader. Applicant must have a minimum of 64 credits and pass the "gates" requirements for acceptance as a certification candidate.

 

Michele Towers Scholarship

Award: $900, Deadline: May 1

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and between 30 and 95 credits. Orientation to service and commitment to teaching are required to be demonstrated.

 

Betty Clase Goodstein '48 Scholarship in Education and Physical Education

Award: $1,000, Deadline: February

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and 12 credit hours.

 

Sandra Wheat Burroughs Memorial Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must be enrolled in the special education with certification program and demonstrate leadership in courses.

 

Gustave A. and Geraldine S. Werner Foundation Scholarship

Award: $3,400, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must be majoring in Childhood Education with Special Education.

 

Warren L. Foster Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must demonstrate a good academic record and campus involvement.

 

Susan J. Hughes Memorial Scholarship

Award: $2,310, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must have a strong academic record and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and learning, advocacy for special needs students, leadership, wit, compassion, and integrity. Preference is given to applicant who plans to complete master's degree at Geneseo's School of Education.

 

Joyce Stegman Memorial Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, graduate from a San Luis Valley high school, and submit a letter completing the statement "Why I feel I deserve this scholarship."

 

Dorcile Fowler Memorial Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: None

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and a minimum composite ACT score of 22. Special consideration is given to applicant with disabilities and/or financial need. Top ten finalists are required to write an essay.

 

Walter Higbee Scholarship

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and a minimum composite ACT score of 22. Special consideration is given to applicant with disabilities and/or financial aid. The top ten finalists will be required to submit an essay.

 

Patty Roach Scholarship

Applicant must be a full-time student with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

 

Professor Ken Card Endowed Scholarship

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be enrolled full-time, and demonstrate extracurricular involvement.

 

John M. Dodd Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled full-time. Preference is given to minority students.
