Scholarships in Natural Sciences

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program

Award: $7,500, Deadline: January 27

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or resident alien who has a minimum "B" grade average and ranks in top quarter of class. Selection is based upon merit, outstanding potential, and intent to pursue career in mathematics, natural sciences, or engineering. Letter of intent to obtain U.S. citizenship is required to be submitted.

 

Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Fund Grant

Award: $3,500, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must research North American fauna, except birds.

 

Direct Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: April 15; May 15

Applicant must be a junior or senior in a baccalaureate program or a graduate student at an accredited university who is pursuing a degree in forensic science, forensic chemistry, or a physical/natural science. Applicants from FEPAC accredited programs will be given additional consideration. Selection is based upon overall scholastic record including forensic science coursework, motivation or commitment to a forensic science career, personal statement and faculty recommendation. Awards will not be granted to current forensic science laboratory employees pursuing graduate degrees.

 

Kent Weigel Math Scholarship

Award: $750, Deadline: January 11

Applicant must be a Ventura County resident, a graduating high school senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrates financial need. Applicant must major in math, physical or natural sciences.

 

Wells Scholarship

Award: $44,000, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must be an outstanding student in science or mathematics. Nomination is required; applicants nominated rank at or near the top of their class, pursue the most rigorous course load available, and demonstrate sustained and outstanding leadership ability. Other selection factors include the completed Common Application and a special application, which will be sent to the nominated applicant. Interview and campus visit prior to January 15 is required. A faculty committee will select the finalists.

 

Knop Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must have a minimum 3.8 GPA and rank in the top fifth of class. Completion of four years of math and four years of natural science in high school, interview, and essay are required.

 

RFF Summer Internship

Award: -, Deadline: March 4

Applicant must be an undergraduate or graduate student who displays strong writing skills and a desire to analyze complex environmental policy problems. Preference will be given to graduate students.

 

Abbott Laboratories Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be in good academic standing, demonstrate financial need, and reflect the diversity of the Baruch student body.

 

Carlson Presidential Scholarship

Award: $56,000, Deadline: January 15

Applicant must demonstrate that he/she will perform at the highest level while in school. Applicant must execute an interview or attend Presidential Scholars Day in February.

 

Patricia Collins Amaral Memorial Fund

Award: $600, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a senior who has a minimum 3.0 GPA and who has demonstrated the finest qualities of leadership through participation in campus organizations and has rendered service of significant benefit to the campus community.

 

Alumni Association Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must demonstrate community leadership and have met the award criteria established by the Alumni Association's Scholarship Committee. Applicant must have completed 12 credits last semester and 24 credits at Bridgewater State College as of December 31. Applicants who have transferred from Massachusetts Community Colleges, Dean College, or Quincy College are eligible to apply.

 

Camille Cosby Scholarship in Science

Award: $2,400, Deadline: None

Selection is based upon financial need.

 

Camille and Bill Cosby Scholarship in Science

Award: $2,400, Deadline: May 3

Applicant must be an entering freshmen student who graduated from Simon Gratz, Germantown, Central or Girls High School, who intends to major in one of the natural sciences. Nomination from high school and financial need are required.

 

Academic Investments in Math and Science

Award: $1,500, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be female or a member of an underrepresented group.

Francis M. Dowd Scholarship

Applicant must be the son or daughter of a permanent Raytheon employee, who has been accepted to the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus as a full-time student in engineering, physical sciences or mathematics. Selection based on academic promise and financial need.

 

Science Scholarship

Award: $20,000, Deadline: January 15

Awarded to students who show promise to excel in the natural sciences.

 

Trevor D. Leser Memorial Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduating senior from Western High School in Bay County, MI who will pursue a degree in the natural sciences at a four-year college or university. Minimum 3.0 GPA required.

 

Ora E. Anderson Scholarship

Award: $3,000, Deadline: March 31

Applicant must be a graduating senior from the Appalachian Ohio area who will pursue post-secondary education in a natural sciences field.

 

Esther J. and Lewis W. Whiting Scholarship

Award: $8,000, Deadline: March 30

Applicant must be a graduate of Springfield Central High School currently pursuing a degree in medicine or natural science.

 

Dr. Leonard L. & Dr. Ma. Teresa Bissonnette Endowed Scholarship in Pre-Medicine II

Award: $3,000, Deadline: December 1

Applicant must be an out-of-state student at Franklin College majoring in the natural sciences and planning to attend medical school. Financial need must be demonstrated.

 

William J. Lechel II Memorial Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: November 15

Applicant must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in the United States. Applicant must be interested in mosquito control who plans to study natural science or a related field.

 

Byron Youtz Memorial Scholarship

Award: $2,428, Deadline: February 3

Applicant must be a full-time junior or senior at Evergreen State College majoring in the arts, humanities, or natural sciences.

 

ACOR-CAORC Fellowship

Award: $23,800, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must be an enrolled graduate student, U.S. citizen, pursuing studies in in humanities and the natural and social sciences. Funding is to support Near Eastern studies.
