Scholarships in French Language And Literature

Fellowship for Full-Time Studies in French

Award: $1,000, Deadline: November 15

Applicants must be Alberta residents, Canadian Citizens or Landed Immigrants, and plan to register full-time in a post-secondary program of at least one semester in length. Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of three courses per semester which have French as the language of instruction.

 

Mary Isabel Sibley Fellowship

Award: $20,000, Deadline: January 18

Applicant must be an unmarried woman from age 25 to 35, have her doctorate or have fulfilled all requirements for it except the dissertation, and be planning full-time research during the fellowship year.

 

Bourse Georgette LeMoyne

Award: $7,000, Deadline: November 1

Applicant must be a woman who is a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant attending a Canadian university and studying in French.

 

George E. Mylonas Scholarship

Applicant must be an entering freshman student who plans to pursue an undergraduate major in Arabic; art history and archaeology; Chinese; classics/ancient studies; comparative arts; comparative literature; dance; drama; English; film and media studies; French; German; modern Hebrew; history; interdisciplinary project in the humanities; literature and history; Italian; Japanese; Jewish, Islamic, and Near Eastern studies; music; philosophy; religious studies; Russian studies; or Spanish.

 

E. Catherine Barclay Scholarship

Award: $5,000, Deadline: December 15

Award is for full-time study at the U de Bourgogne in Dijon, France. Applicant must have a minimum 3.2 GPA and sufficient ability in oral and written French. Selection is based upon academic merit and extracurricular activities demonstrating good citizenship. Award is in Canadian dollars.

 

Larry Kruse Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Three letters of recommendation and biography required.

 

French Scholarship

Award: $250, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must have a minimum 2.25 GPA, rank in top half of class, have a minimum combined SAT I score of 970 (composite ACT score of 21), and have taken advanced French. Two letters of recommendation required.

 

Departmental Scholarship in Art, Art History, Digital Media Arts, Music, Science, Theatre and Writing

Award: $5,000, Deadline: January 10; February 1

Applicant must excel in the area.

 

French Study Abroad Scholarship

Award: $750, Deadline: January 16

 

Margaret C. Nation Scholarship

Award: $290, Deadline: February 13

Applicant must have completed one academic year and must be enrolled in Oswego's overseas program in Paris.

 

Patricia Collins Amaral Memorial Fund

Award: $600, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a senior who has a minimum 3.0 GPA and who has demonstrated the finest qualities of leadership through participation in campus organizations and has rendered service of significant benefit to the campus community.

 

Alumni Association Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must demonstrate community leadership and have met the award criteria established by the Alumni Association's Scholarship Committee. Applicant must have completed 12 credits last semester and 24 credits at Bridgewater State College as of December 31. Applicants who have transferred from Massachusetts Community Colleges, Dean College, or Quincy College are eligible to apply.

 

Dr. Rose Alent Memorial Award

Award: $500, Deadline: February 1

Applicant must demonstrate academic excellence in French.

 

Margaret Belcher Travel Scholarship

Award: $2,900, Deadline: March 17

Applicant must have declared a major in French and have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours toward their degree with a minimum of two courses in French. Applicant must provide proof of intent to study French at an accredited institution in Canada or abroad and be registered in 12 credit hours at the University of Regina the semester after returning from travel. Minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA required.

 

Midwest Student Exchange Program

Award: -, Deadline: November 1

Applicant must be a resident of Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, or North Dakota. Minimum 3.4 GPA and combined SAT Reasoning score of 1090 (composite ACT score of 25) required. Applicant must be majoring in one of the majors listed on sponsor's application page.

 

Fellowships for Regular Program in Greece

Award: $11,500, Deadline: January 15

Applicants must have completed at least one to two years of graduate study and must take exams in ancient Greek language, history and either literature or art and archaeology. Students must be able to read French, German, ancient Greek and Latin with an ability to also read modern Greek and Italian considered helpful. Applicants must be graduate students who are preparing for an advanced degree in classical and ancient Mediterranean studies or a related field. The fellowships provide study in Athens or Greece for nine months and may not be used for costs at the student's home institution.
