Scholarships in Physical Education

Graduate Research Grant- Master

Award: $2,500, Deadline: March 15

Applicant must be a member of NSCA and be studying in the field of strength and conditioning.

 

Culinary Arts/Nutrition/Physical Education Scholarship

Award: $1,500, Deadline: March 31

Applicant must be an African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander, or Latino/Hispanic, enrolled in an approved program at a California institution. Undergraduate applicant must have 50 semester units completed and a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA. Graduate applicant must have 12-15 units completed and a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. Four copies of a personal statement, two recommendations, a 500- to 1,000-word essay, official transcripts, photo, and application are required to be submitted.

 

TAHPERD Student Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student studying health education, physical education, recreation, and/or dance at a Texas college or university. Applicant must be a student member of TAHPERD as of March 1 of the application year and continue membership through the next year. Applicant must continue in the same program for fall and spring semesters as a full-time student during the academic year the scholarship is awarded. Letter from chair of applicant's department verifying the discipline in which the applicant is majoring and that he/she is a full-time student is required.

 

Gottshall-Rex Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be an undergraduate female student majoring in physical education programs leading to degrees in teaching. Financial need may be considered. Selection is based upon academic achievement. FAFSA (due by April 1) and Pell eligibility are required.

 

Joyce Pennington Scholarship

Award: $3,000, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

 

Margaret Jones Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: None

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be planning to pursue a career in elementary or middle school physical education.

 

Mary Lu Marchan Hurd Memorial Scholarship

Award: $500, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a woman who is a full-time student with a minimum 2.75 GPA and be a resident of the western slope of Colorado.

 

Health and Physical Education Club Scholarship

Award: $100, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and be a Health and Physical Education Club member. Two letters of recommendation required.

 

Florence Baker Bugg Scholarship

Award: $2,000, Deadline: May 30

Preference given to a female applicant from the Midwest.

 

Patricia Collins Amaral Memorial Fund

Award: $600, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must be a senior who has a minimum 3.0 GPA and who has demonstrated the finest qualities of leadership through participation in campus organizations and has rendered service of significant benefit to the campus community.

 

Alumni Association Scholarship

Award: -, Deadline: February 15

Applicant must demonstrate community leadership and have met the award criteria established by the Alumni Association's Scholarship Committee. Applicant must have completed 12 credits last semester and 24 credits at Bridgewater State College as of December 31. Applicants who have transferred from Massachusetts Community Colleges, Dean College, or Quincy College are eligible to apply.

 

Community Scholarship for Student Volunteers and Interns

Award: $1,000, Deadline: February

Applicant must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at the school and must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Preference is given to females, physical education majors, and students who are working or volunteering at the Cortland YWCA.

 

Betty Clase Goodstein '48 Scholarship in Education and Physical Education

Award: $1,000, Deadline: February

Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and 12 credit hours.

 

Alice Thorpe Hoppey '56 Scholarship in Education

Award: $1,000, Deadline: February

Applicant must demonstrate academic promise, leadership, and campus involvement. Selection is based upon financial need and major.

 

Bernard W. Hungerford '52 Scholarship

Donald '59 and Donna Bell Traver '59 Scholarship

Selection is based upon academic achievement and financial need.

 

Women's Scholarship in Physical Education

Selection is based upon academic achievement, leadership, extracurricular involvement, and financial need.

 

Solon B. Cousins Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: None

Applicant must be recommended by his/her local YMCA Executive Director and enrolled in the YMCA Senior Directors Certification Program. Written verification of having completed 50 hours of volunteer services at a YMCA organization/agency by July 15th of each year the scholarship is received is required.

 

Buerkle Scholarship

Award: $10,000, Deadline: March 1

Applicant must be a graduate of a Jackson, Klamath, or Josephine County high school who will pursue a degree in english, journalism, math, music or physical education at a public or nonprofit college or university. FAFSA required. Preference given to nontraditional students attending a college in Oregon with a 3.6 GPA or higher.

 

Tobin Sorenson Physical Education Scholarship

Award: $1,000, Deadline: April 1

Applicant must be a sophomore, junior, or senior at a regionally accredited institution who is pursuing a career at the K-12 level as a physical education teacher. Leadership skills and extracurricular involvement in sports education/activities must be demonstrated. Minimum 3.5 GPA, essay, and two letters of recommendation required.
